This was my best season ever!! Since making my first hunt as a youngster back on Jan 31, 1982 I've never had it as good as it was this year. This was the biggest shootout of a season as has ever been. Killed fewer Mallards than I normally would. Frankly, just didn't see them in the "teal sanctuary" we had this year and it was way too compelling to leave that spot to go look elsewhere. The times I did go elsewhere, the Mallards were there and I'm going to guess, and say that about 10-12% of my total harvest was Mallard. I'll bet 75% of my total harvest was GW teal. I've never been one to complain about what I think I don't have, I just choose to enjoy what I have. And all those teal were ever so good to me this year. We had more water this year than ever, and it really helped our spot.

Not that it matters much, but we killed more geese this year as a result too. We've probably seen twice as many this past week as we've seen all season. If I weren't totally spent by now, I'd be setting up on our North line trying to pass shoot them coming out of a rice field.

A solid 10, only because there is no 11 on this scale. I'm glad it's over though. The dog must not be happy. She woke my wife and I up this morning. Must have thought we were late.

I'd give it an 8 in the South Delta. When it was hot, it was really hot. 6 man limit opening morning, shot my solo limit the following Sat., then ended the year with limits on 3 of my last 5 hunts, one 3 man limit, one 2 man limit, and a solo limit. But, of course, I had some really slow mornings as well.

I'd also say that my rating is probably skewed by the fact that I grew up in SC hunting a dying Atlantic Flyway. It's all relative, you know. You guys that have grown up killing tons of ducks here in MS would probably not be happy with the year I had. I hope we can all be thankful for what we have. The fact that a young punk can move here in July and can hunt nothing but public land with no boat or 4-wheeler (I'm poor) and can still feel like he had a successful year shows you just how good duck hunting in the MS Delta is.

As far as killing ducks goes Ill give it a 9 overall. At our camp we killed more ducks than ever before. Granted some days we had to work hard for them, we killed a lot of ducks. We killed at least 3 times what we killed last year. Primary species by far were mallards. So much so that there were several days that I walked out with 4 mallards and could have killed as many more greenheads as you wanted but no other species were working

I hunted in TX in early Nov and I would give it a 10. Mainly because it was the first time I hunted in this area and we hunted public water with good friends and killed good numbers of ducks.

I hunted in South Louisiana for 5 days in the middle of the season and give it a 10 also. We hunted 4 days and killed limits every day. Some great mixed bags. Not to mention that 5 days with some coon asses that kept me laughing the entire time was not bad either.

As far as the overall season ill give it a 10. I had a great time hunting with everyone that I hunted with. Made some new friends and got to hunt with some old friends. The conversations were great, I enjoyed watching my dogs and everyone elses work. The food was great and all of the stories, beverages and lies shared around the fire were awesome. Although I am glad to be getting some good rest and spending more time with the wife and kids I will be sad to not be spending my weekends with good friends till next season.

From my dog's perspective, it was a 10. Of course, she don't have to write any checks to pay for any of it.

I would give it a 7 or maybe even an 8. Good Mallard numbers for most of the season. I even killed Mallards here in East Central MS, in holes where all I've ever seen is Woodies, Ringnecks, and Mergansers. IT seemed to gradually slow down right around Christmas and then built up for a big finish. The hunt of the year was last Saturday. Ducks everywhere!!!
305 days to get ready for duck season.
