Tunica Cutoff

Postby jcobb » Sun Jan 25, 2009 4:49 pm

What's the deal?

I used to hunt Tunica Cutoff regularly (about 4 years ago). I went there yesterday and noticed that there are several spots where people just leave decoys. There have always been the blinds on the north end that leave them out, but I noticed places where there are decoys with no blinds. Is this how folks claim their spot now? How ridiculous.

Just a vent,

That would be the best way to handle it.
Surely the longer a man duck hunts the wealthier he becomes in experience,in reminiscence,in love of nature,if he goes out with the harvest of a quiet eye, free from the plague of himself

Thats about what I was thinking. However, I will give someone the opportunity to explain to me how this is legal and provides the hunters that own the decoys any more right to hunt that spot than anyone else?

its not illegal to leave out decoys or boats on public water its kinda like leaving a car parked in a public spot.....just because it was left doesnt mean you can take it, but if you leave them out for a certain length of time (not sure of time frame) its considered abandoned property and you can claim it through some paper work with your local warden....fokes leave deks out IMHO because they know most folks don't like confrontations and will just move on....they are just HUNTING BULLIES. usually what makes my decision for me is (is it really worth what could happen if I make my stand). sometimes I sit and stay and sometimes I go.....I guess its like clint says DO YA FEEL LUCKY>>>>>>>>

In TN on most WMA's that don't have permanent blind sites all decoys and boats have to me removed every night. I kind of figured it was OK to leave them out down there, but didn't think those that left the dekes would have any more right than others to hunt over em on any given day.

There is talk amongst the ramp owners to close all ramps from November 15th to Feb 1. The cost of maintaining the ramp areas and the trash that people throw out.outways the money they take in. The closing will not effect those that live in the camps just those that live outside of the camps.

If this happens you wont have to worry about deke's or floating blinds. BTW there is not a public ramp on the cutoff there all private.

I don't buy the arguement of the cost of maintaining the ramp isn't worth it. If they close their ramps to outsiders, it has to be more about greed hunting than anything.

It will be just like Flower. We had a place there for nearly 12 years. It was private access that allowed the public to use it. Now all the big clubs around it control it.

Good hunting is getting harder to get on public places.

You can tie a rope to a cynder block, drop it on the edge of their dekes and while holding the rope, start making circles around their spread in your boat. The block will stay put and the rope will put all their decoys in a tight little ball. We will usually pull them out onto the edge of the lake and leave them for who ever wants to untangle the mess. This will usually fix your decoy problem.

I also hear they are tough to get when they are thrown in the top of buck brush.

i alwasy thought of it as littering. and dont they write tickets for littering? Now if you leave them out and hunt over them a few days in a row think its ok. but putting decoys out and leaving them for the season aint going to stop me from hunting if your not there and the ducks are! Just pure lazyness to me as well. Pick em up!
