Dogtra vs. Sportdog?
I need to replace a lost TT ecollar and want to know what people think of these two brands. Am considering the SD 1800 or 2000 or the Dogtra 280NCP? Both are half mile range. Will use for field corrections when hunting my 7 yr lab and for starting a new dog this spring.
Both seem comparably priced so it comes down to reliability, quality, company service. Thanks.

Re: Dogtra vs. Sportdog?
Dogtra hands down. I have an old Dogtra 500 that's still going strong and has trained lots of dogs. It's my favorite by far and hasn't died after 8 years. I also have a 2000 that's nice (one of the best collars ever made IMHO)
SportDog has an evil reputation for being crap. I was given one and threw it away, it sucked so bad.
I don't know a single person who still uses one b/c they are/were so unreliable.
It's really a shame b/c they tried hard but hey...make something that works and I'll buy it...

I have replaced a sportdog already in my brief lab training career. I would get a Dogtra or a TT tube style transmitter.

Re: Dogtra vs. Sportdog?
I have been using an SD 2000 for a while now, thought I would use the add a dog feature but decided I wasn't putting another 100 in it. Sent it back a month after buying it and haven't had any trouble since. It isn't a bad collar and its pretty hot with the long prongs. That said if somebody would give me a 100 for it I would buy another TT or dogtra.
I have learned like any other electronic, if you buy a cheap collar its a cheap collar no matter what the brand is. I have bought lower end TT that I should have sprung and got a better product. You can spend it at the purchase or later getting it repaired.

Re: Dogtra vs. Sportdog?
I have never used a sport dog so I can't tell you anything good or bad about them but, I have a dogtra and have never had an issue or problem with it.

Re: Dogtra vs. Sportdog?
i have a dogtra and i love it.
instead of going with the 280 you should spend the extra 30 bucks i think and get the 1900, then you will get 127 different levels of stimulation.

I have the Dogtra 1900 model. I bought it for $202 brand new off of ebay from a dealer. It has not given me any troubles.
