Yeah......I followed your advice to that fella that was wantin' to know how to set a decoy spread?........I put-out 6 mallard hens and watched how the ducks worked, then 6 mallard drakes, then 6 gadwalls, Wigeon, BW teal, GW teal, honkers, specks, woodies, then pintails.

'Kinda wish I didn't have such a variety of decoy species.........that experiment of yours took me all day. 'Trouble is......'not many birds around, right now. But I learned a lot about settin-out decoys. Thanks!

I think I'm gonna try a dozen 'bootlip' decoys next, and see what the ducks do. They ARE fun to watch.

RESULTS: ( Decoy - Attracts)
  • Mallard - bootlips
  • Teal - coots and grebes
  • Pintail - sea gulls
  • Gadwall - cormorants
  • Snow goose - white herons and pelicans
  • Wigeon - nothing

I have a few that I used last year in a rice field, but got tired of the wind blowing them over (water keel) so now they just take up space in my shed.
