For the guys that use a jerk string, what size anchor weight do you use? Would one of those 3lb grappling style anchors be enough?
I'd like to try one this year, but don't want to be lugging around more weight than I have to.

Re: Jerk String Question
Don't use a weight. Tie it off to a tree or bush on the other side. If you are not sure if there will be a tree there, take a piece of conduit.
Re: Jerk String Question
Get a circle decoy weight then just use a stick or limb and stick in the mud and put the stick through the weight.

Re: Jerk String Question
Go to the welding shop and get them to make you a T handle. 6" wide X 24" to 36" long depending on how deep the water is where you hunt.I hunt fields and sloughs so I use a 24". All this can be made out of 3/8 " stock. On the long part (vertical) weld 2 short L's of small diameter material so that you can wind up your string and keep it all together. My jerk is make out of a bungy door strap that I robbed off of a layout blind. If you push the T into mud (gumbo where I hunt) you have a very good anchor to pull against. I put 3 dekes about 18" apart and I turn one sideways to give some hip action. Works great. I can send you a pic of mine but I won't be at the house until Wednesday.

Re: Jerk String Question
Use a tree or stump or like said earlier, a piece of conduit. Tie your end string to a rubber strap or bungee cord then pull away. You don't need a weight at all! If you had a weight, you would just be constantly pulling the ducks toward you, you would never have them return back to their original position. Also, you can jerk real fast and hard, um, that doesn't sound right
, BUT, if you do, this also causes a good bit of ripple that you can keep in the water so when ducks fly over you don't see, THEY see the ripply water and come check you out!
GOOD LUCK!

GOOD LUCK!

Re: Jerk String Question
Here's what I have been using.

As others have mentioned, this one has the ability to wrap up the line for easy storage.
SPAM:
I can make them for other MS Duckers for $20. Up to four feet long. Spray painted, you supply the line.
