Duck Numbers

Ok, time to get this site rolling. I am just curious to how many ducks you are seeing and what area you are in. I am PUMPED for this season to start!!! I was at work in the Pascagoula River yesterday and saw two big ducks(probably greys) and one blue winged teal. I know doesn't sound like much but to have some ducks down here this early is a good sign. They were flying around at about 9 or so. Lets hear what everybody else is seeing and get the fever flowing! Only 5 weeks to go..........LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!!!!

I saw about 13 canadas on the way to work this moring. Flying about 40 yards in the air over I-20.

Saw many big ducks trout fishing on the pearl and have been seeing some large groups of geese.

Speaking of geese, maybe someone can shed some light on this question for me. I never understood why in Louisiana they get lots of speckle bellys and some other geese, yet we get very few in south Mississippi? Do they just not like vacationing in Mississippi or what?

How many rice fields or for that matter large Ag fields do you see in south mississippi. And since South Texas and Mexico is where they are really headed your not likely to see many geese ease of Ocean Springs.

Sand Hill Cranes are doing well in south Mississippi. But are protected.......

Yea it is kind of tough for those snow's to come down in the pines. How ever I can picture it now, 1000's of snow's fallen in the longleaf's. I'm ready to go! :lol:

I thought I saw pine cones on the favored foods list of Specks? Musta been a typo.

Seriously, they show up in the Delta by the thousands, but southern LA has alot more than we do.

WATERBUG,THOSE AREN'T MIGRATORY BIRDS, THOSE GEESE HAVE BEEN IN THAT AREA FOR SEVERAL YEARS,BET YOU SAW THEM AROUND CROSSGATES DIDN'T YOU?

Ok you buncah smart@(#@&. I am not talking about hunting flooded pines, I am talking about hunting the marsh, just like where they kill them in Louisiana. I guess the ag fields makes sense but I thought for sure maybe a handful might get off course and come down to Mississippi first. I heard they navigate by the stars. Anyone know if this is true?

Buddy of mine in Louisianna said that there are alot of birds moving down there with the last two cool fronts.. "If the number of birds down here right now are any indication of the upcoming season, it is going to be really good,". That is in Venice.

Hey Lefty, when I was kid we laid under sheets at low tide off of, would you know, Goose Point -west end of Cat Island. Killed snows and blues as they came out there to loaf after feeding during the night in the fields up state. Never saw any speckles. That's not part of the US Seashore but private. Couldn't get dad to take us back after trying to eat the blues....never went back. Killed redheads,bluebills, etc. Huge rafts of divers out there with zillion mergansers. Lots of geese in the Pearl marsh usually. No specks though.
