NEED INFO FOR MEMPHIS!!

Postby Big Steve » Thu Jul 31, 2008 9:49 am

Planning a trip to Memphis on Aug 9/10. Girlfriend wants to go to Beal Street and Graceland. Where is a good safe place for a 50ish white couple to stay, reasonably priced, but not a dive either!! Never been there myself, have no idea where to stay and what part of town to stay out of! ANY ADVICE???

If you want to save some money, stay in Southaven. Plenty of places, and you will be safe. You will be 15 minutes from Beale Street
Sometimes you just have to close your eyes, count to ten, take a deep breath and remind yourself that you wouldn't look good in prison stripes... and just smile at that dumbass and walk away.

Same as MemphisStockBroker, stay in Southaven. That's what the Mrs's and I do when we stay up there.

I agree with whats said above, stay in Southhaven. As far as the Drury I have never stayed at that but I have stayed in numerous Drury Inns and have not yet been disappointed.

Drury Inn is good..... stayed there twice a few years ago. Also stayed at Marriot Suites i think last year. It is just across I-55 from Drury. It was 30-40 bucks cheaper and nicer, but it was brand new and might have been running special rates at the time.

Ya'll mofo's trip me out. If u stay in memphis the boogieman is not gonna get ya  . Downtown is really a safe neighborhood. Southaven is cookiecutter suburbia just like all the rest of them. There is a comfort inn and a holiday inn downtown that would be more reasonably priced than the peabody or the madison. The place on the island is riverinn, and its really high. Theres a lot to do downtown besides beale street, being from jones county u might be intrested in the mud island riverpark, it has a working scale model of the mississppi river. Might also check out the autozone ball park, gibson guitar factory, and the national cotton museum, all within walking distance of the hotel.

Thanks but No thanks TODO...have no desire to stay in downtown Memprica! I am too hot tempered, and ALWAYS carry a large caliber handgun !! Would be too tempting to do some target practice.

TODO You are correct the boogieman won't get ya in the day time, but at night he might. The last time I went to a Redbirds game(at night) I tried to save a couple of dollars and park and walk. They stole everything, but my cell phone because it was in my pocket, even stole my baby seat in the back seat. I lived in New Orleans for 14 months after Katrina and downtown Memphis has more crime than downtown NO. I currently live in Collierville, TN. Don't you watch the news. Shoot out yesterday, all over downtown chasing each other shootin. I'm ready to move back in MS

Just out of curiousity why are you coming into Memphis if you are that worried about it?? Guess I would understand fear if you were scared to just drive thru but if you want to go to Beale and see Graceland those 2 places aren't in a bubble separate from the rest of the area. If you stay in Southaven that means you will be relying on 1 of the wonderful parking garages around Beale. I would say the hotels around Beale with the secured parking would be a little safer for the vehicle. I am not an every weekend visitor to Beale but if I have out of town friends who want to meet or go I definitely would. If you are going to be carrying I am sure you will be staying away from places that serve alcohol (not many of those on Beale).
