your favorite part....
Re: your favorite part....
I will have to agree with gordo 100%. For me, it's all about the companionship. I do 95% of my hunting with my dad and two other guys and I wouldn't change that for any amount of money. Also, there is something about getting up opening day to go to a place you have gone for the past 15 years, putting out the decoys, and 10 minutes before shooting time, hearing susies on the water. Seeing ducks come over the trees and drop straight down into the hole that you strategically left them in the decoys. I could go on and on, but those things get my heart going.

Re: your favorite part....
I'd have to say that the fellowship is number one for me. Don't get me wrong, I love to shoot a duck and I love to eat a duck, but, it's so much better when you have friends there to enjoy it with. I would rather kill a duck or 2 with a few friends than kill a limit by myself any day. I started duck hunting a few years ago because I was always intrigued with the birds and how beautiful they were. As a child, I would look through mail order catalogues for hours at the decoys and admire them. My dad would never agree to try out the ducks though. There were deer to be killed. I started on my on with a few dekes at the age of 34 and have gone from there. The fellowship is the thing that's made me stick with it though. The conversation, ribbing, and story telling in the blind are things that you just can't enjoy while sitting by yourself in a tree. I still go and kill some deer for the freezer but I find myself not able to sit in that treestand very long. I also enjoy the time after the hunt. Cooking for your friends and enjoying the meal together is something I absolutely love. This year I hope to get my daughter her first duck and canada goose. If that happens, I don't know of anything that will be able to top that.

Drankin at the camp the night before!
J/K. Watching the marsh come to life and noticing the "little" things that we do not always stop to pay attention to. Then seeing the ducks come on in!

I would have to say that my favorite part is spending time with my hunting partners. My two main hunting partners are getting on up in age (71 & 63) and their time out duck hunting is getting numbered. So i cherish each and every hunt i have with them, and also the hunts that i have with my father (which is only a couple a year). Oh yeah, and saying take em!!!

I love the sound of the wind over their wings, and the sunrise, and seeing the Woodies buzz through the timber, and the splash a big fat greenhead makes when I fold one up, and especially the look on the dogs face when she brings one to me. Is it duck season yet?

I love standing next to a tree with, champ, cajuncannon, and olmissva, trying not to fall into the water because everyone is reciting movie lines and cracking eachother up. also nothing beats the mornings where we get to hear of champs sexual misadventures, like how he almost got to second base with that girl from the bar last night but was interrupted by a phone call from the sober friend........ couldnt count the number of times we have been laughing our cute little butts off and looked up to have ducks dropping into the hole......really makes for a great morning.
I guess im not cool enough anymore to make the list huh!

Especially now tha im workin and cant 50 out of 60 days like we used to!

I like all aspects of the experience. I like to call. I don't know if anybody else likes me to call. I had a lab that was La State champion in the 80s, so i like to train dogs, etc. If I had to pick one "sport" within a sport, it would be shooting. I shoot a bout a flat of sheels per weekend and can't get enough. I get my biggest high hunting killing the first duck of the day over the limit.

I like seeing dead mallards falling through the timber. That is my favorite part, but besides that, I just like seeing the day wake up.

I forgot to say I also love that look of "oh crap" a duck gets when you step out from behind the tree and he realizes that he has no where to go because there is a gridlock of limbs and branches above him. It is absolutely priceless!!

I like that rush of adrenaline that you get when you are about 8 ducks over the limit and you are headed back to the boat ramp!!
