Worms and more Worms!

Postby Delta Duck » Thu Aug 07, 2003 9:37 am

Is anyone else having any problems with the worms eating the milo and millets?

I've had to spray some milo twice. Sprayed the brown top millet yesterday.

I dunno, I did see a big 'ol earthworm yesterday though! I was walking down the sidewalk and thought it was a skinny snake! I swear he was at least 12-14" long. He was awful thin, but he would've scrunched up nicely on a hook!

Hope you get your worm problems sorted out.

Ducky Dan,

The worms are not army worms are they? Those little green worms have eaten up our hay field more than once and they can do it in a couple of day!!! We have to spray for them about every year which isn't cheap.

Good luck,

Yep, sure have. Checked the milo in the duck hole yesterday evening and the armyworms are working on it pretty good. Will probably spray them tomorrow.

They are more than likely Fall armyworms, but not the same species that gets in cotton and corn. These are primarily foliage feeders, as you can tell in your pastures or yards, or in this case, duck holes. A little Ammo or generic cypermethrin will wear these little puppies out.

The only way you are going to kill anything with ammo is if you take the can and throw the whole thing at the worm. You would be better off just mashing them with your fingers. beg, steal or borrow some fury, or a third gen. pyrethroid.

The first time I sprayed it was with Karate Z. $365 a gal. My second shot was with fury. If I have to spray again it will be with mustang max.

Delta Duck, I thought that Mustang Max is the "new" formulation of Fury. Used Fury a couple of times this year already treating rice for stinkbugs, but it was hard to find. Good product though. Really puts a hurt'n on them old stinkbugs!! :)

Ammo will only kill the sub species of fall armyworm that feeds on foliage only...ie, gets in your home lawn or pastures or jap millet. It will not kill the species that gets into corn or cotton. And it doesn't take very much at all, I can assure you of that. It won't touch bollworms or budworms very well at all. If you have these, then yes, Fury, Mustang Max, or Karate Z is the best way to go. Mustang Max is the cheapest right now I think, with a rate of 1 to 40, I think it is 4.60 an acre. I said Ammo because it is time to get migrations of these Fall armyworms into fields. I have killed a million of them in my yard and millet with just a light shot of Ammo.
