DirecTv/Dish

Postby Drakeshead » Sun May 18, 2008 7:03 am

I know we had discussed some of this before, but I want to hear from those that have switched. I currently have DirecTv, but now I have an HDTV and need to upgrade. I could just go with DirecTv, but I get a $10 a month discount from my employer if I go with Dish. For those that have switched from one to the other and can give me their thoughts from one to the other, what are the pro's and con's.

Thanks

Direct doesn't offer locals in Meridian so that's why I switched to Dish about 2 yrs ago. I have HD Ultimate package. It has the WFN (World Fishing Network) in HD. If you've never seen fishing in HD you don't know what your missing. I've been pleased with Dish.

What channel is WFN?

I switched to Dish because I get the local channels. With Direct I got them out of California nad New York. I could care less about the news there. Heck I barely watch the news here.

From my understanding, DirecTV has more HD channels than the other guys. Been pleased so far.
If it doesn't work out there will never be any doubt that the pleasure was worth all the pain.

Go with Direct Tv. The DVR is 100 times better with Direct. i have both because of no locals with Direct tv, only use dish for locals but with full digital coming next year you can get all locals over the air in HD. the direct tv HDDVR is able to plug in a over the air antenna and receive local channels and they show up on the direct tv guide.

Of all the reasons to choose Direct over Dish, I have never seen this one. In fact I have read the opposite many times. I heard that Dish DVR was so good, in fact, because they had infringed on a few of TIVO's patents and lawsuits were ongoing. :?:

I have direct and the only downside that I have found is that when I called about getting locals in HD, they said that there were no plans to get them in HD. I really need to see the season finale of lost in HD, but oh well...

get yourself an off air HD antenne & hook it up in your attic. I went thru the same thing w/ directv and the local hd channels. they had to submit a request thru the jackson broadcaster requesting that I be able to get the local hd channels. it took about a month or so and I got a reply by letter stating that my request to receive the local hd channels had been denied, so I got an hd off air antenne. and to be honest some of the channels are better quality than the directv hd channels.

I too bought an HD antenna but it is in the family room, not attic, and it works great to get locals in HD. On our system(DirecTV) right now, the local channels are going in and out like losing the signal. Does not happen on other channels. I think it could be interference with a tree(neighbor's) in line of sight when wind blows, but why only locals? It is a 3 LNB style dish. Anybody had this trouble?

My dish network dvr holds 350 hrs of sd and 55 hrs of HD. the best I saw with direct was 200 sd and 50 hd.

if anyone is considering switching or going with DirecTv keep in mind a promotion they have (I think it si permanent)

that is if you subscribe and tell them a current customer refferred you you get $50 off first bill and referral gets $50 off current bill

so if you are not a customer and considering them find a customer before subscribing, and for the record I am a DirecTV customer
