I hate that man
My wife wasted a hundred bucks signing us up for that crap. I don't buy into it at all. the only reason that I go to the dang class is because she wants me to and I love her to death. Plus the naps that I get during the videos are great!!
I can see where it might help somebody that has trouble with money but if you are o.k. in your financial situation then why bother.
I just can't make myself take financial advice from somebody who has gone bankrupt.
To me that is like taking child raising classes from a child molester. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Dave Ramsey is a millionaire because he took common sense, wrote it in a book and sells it at his big presentations that cost $150 to get VIP seating. Sadly, most put these VIP tickets were purchased on their credit card.

I do not dislike Dave, but the majority of the information that he speaks of is common sense. The whole "live within your means" isn't rocket science. Do I do it? Nope, but I am the one that will pay my credit card, truck note, etc. Dave can pay cash when he is taking in thousands of dollars for a one day seminar all in the name of working for the Lord and helping others get out of debt.

I also do not think highly of the preachers wearing Armani suits, driving Rolls' all in the name of the Lord either.

master of the obvious

I guess some folks just don't have the ability to use common sense, and he has made a fortune telling them how to use it.

This is really not a bash against the man though, I think he has helped many people.
There will be a day....

Isn't a good portion of FPU geared toward things other than debt, like investing, saving for children's education, etc.? Knowledge of such things is extremely beneficial to even the debt-free and, to many, worth the price of the class.

Some of his stuff is pretty good. My wife and I use his budgeting software. The cash system is neat, too. I with withdrawal the amount we use each week, and we put it in the various envelopes (groceries, gas, spending, eating-out, etc). The structure of doing this keeps me disciplined.

Has Ramsey ever filed bankruptcy ???

If so, I certainly didn't know that.

Ok, I took the class. And I taught it twice.. And have counceled several families into getting started on the program. The class is very good.. Is it commone sense, some of it.. Other parts of it is Insurance advice, Investing Advice, college plannind that is not so common sense.. When my wife and I started it in 2004 we were 80k in debt. And now we are debt free with the exception of the house.. Does his program work. Yes, do I follow it to the tee nope.. But after the wife and I went thru the class it provided a basis for "how to manage our money" and now we discuss our finances instead of fight over it.. I know personally that it has help us and in using his technigues have been able to help other families as well.

Did Dave Ramsey go bankrupt.. Yes about 20 years ago when he was in real estate. He lost everything and had to start over again.

Oh by the way.. Dave does not accept credit cards for payment. he only accepts debit cards..

You know I think that is a great answer. His answer is one based on a Christian belief. Everyday I thank God for the blessing that he has giving me in my life. That is the same principal that Dave is trying to convey in this message. It is a designation of humility and thankfulness.

I think Dave does a credible and noteworthy service to the people that need to hear his advice. He knows it is only common sense, he even says "we give the same advice your grandmother would!!" He is honest, he has went bankrupt, lost everything he owned, and now has made it back many times over. I, personally, believe in taking advice from someone who has been there and done that. He should know how not to get back there, and for the folks who don't realize they are making a mistake with credit cards, he could be an eye opener. I own my own business and his principles are great to work off of, I guess those of you who have plenty of financial freedom don't need the advice, and that is great, I am sure you worked hard to get what you have, but I appreciate what he does and what he stands for......... Thank you and good day. Oh and I agree with cwink, better than I deserve says alot without saying alot
