Chewing tobacco and snuff

Postby Seymore » Fri May 23, 2003 9:06 pm

Allow me to preach a minute guys. I dipped and chewed in school and quit 11 years ago. Buddy of mine never quit and they think he's got cancer. If he does it's going to be a horrible way to die.

If you do chew, please stop. It ain't easy, but, you can do it. That ground up mint stuff helped me. I also had pictures around of oral cancer and guys with their face cut off. Kinda of hard to get that early morning dip when your looking at a tube snaked down somebody's throat while shaving.

End of preaching. I just hate to have to watch a friend die.

Lost a friend last fall to oral cancer. He had three kids still at home. All due to skoal!

I've been dip/chew free for about a year. I used and still use back off. I think it's tea leaves. Gives me something to spit, and doesn't taste 1/2 bad either.

Hey Chaser, Where would I find "Back Off"?

I went to Copenhagen Long Cut to get away from cigs, but now I'm hooked that mess! :x

I've heard off Back Off, but never seen it!

Anybody ever use the nicorette gum? I quit for about 2 months last year using that. Then, hunting season came around.

I know I need to quit now and this post has prompted me to try again.

Sunchaser, I got a whole pack here at work you can have! Didnt seem to do the trick for me! The fact that you swallow the juice, just turns me off!!!

Thats why I asked Mallardchaser about Back Off, He said it gave him something to spit, and that, is what I think I'm addicted to!

I think the only thing that will work 100% of the time is to, lay it down and never touch it again.

A mental deal!

I'm at a huge disadvantage on that one! :D

RIP, I hear you - cold turkey is best. Still, I have been dipping for 12 years now and I need something to take the nicotine edge off - or so my wife tells me!

Finally a topic I do know about. I am a dentist when not duck hunting or playing golf. I stumbled on to the back-off product watching infomercials one early morning during duck season. They have a program that a person wanting to quit using tobaco works with a partner. The partner mixes the persons skoal and backoff in a % not known to the dipper. The % change until it is eventually 100% backoff. This program works because of two very important aspects:
1. mentally-the dipper is still dipping out of his normal can and does not know for sure what % he is getting.
2. physically-this reduces the amount of nicotine gradually so the body does not go through withdrawals.

NOTHING WORKS FOR A PERSON THAT DOES NOT TRULY WANT TO QUIT.

good luck and remember cancer does not discriminate.

I buy it at the Chevron on Northside by highland village, comes in straight and wintergreen. It only costs $2.00 too which is nice.

Here's a good way to look at it. When I quit a can was about $2.50 and I was close to two cans a day. I've been told it's pushing 5 bucks a can now. Think of all the huntin' stuff and huntin' trips you can buy. :D :D :D

The surgeons looked at my friend and he has what they call leukoplakia. They told him to quit now or else and even then there are no guarantees because he's done it so long. At least the silver lining to this cloud is that if he does develop cancer, they will catch it very early as he is scheduled for regular follow ups.

Man has to die from something you just make your choices on what it may be.

I'll take what God gives me and know I enjoyed life in the process.

Why are things that are so good so bad for ya.

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW LONG NICOTENE STAYS IN YOUR SYSTEM? I AM SURE IT DEPENDS ON HOW MUCH TOBACCO YOU USE. I HAVE RECENTLY STARTED DIPPING AGAIN (1 OR 2 DIPS A DAY) AND HONESLTY ENJOY IT. HOWEVER, I HAVE RECENTLY SIGNED FOR NEW INSURANCE AND HAVE TO GIVE A BLOOD SAMPLE. I KNOW THEY WILL CHECK FOR NICOTENE CAUSE THAT WAS ONE OF THERE QUESTIONS. ANYWAY, HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET OUT OF YOUR SYSTEM?

I am not sure how long it stays in your blood but my insurance required a gum swab tests that will detect nicotene (sp?) and AIDS. Positive for nicotene and Negitive for AIDS.
