same old DU song and dance. They can build duck holes all over the freakin world, but untill they either lengthen the season, or do something about grains all over the ground, WHOEVER the hell it is that's doing it, then these posts are going to continue to be made. If you and Chad Manlove are so big into DU, which I know Chad is, then why don't ya'll help us out. People are saying leaving the corn on the ground and even tilling it is illegal, well, leaving it standing is just as illegal as harvesting and spreading it. Why doesn't DU so something about all that??? Seems like they could lobby for tighter rules and regulations about that up there. But no, the hunters would be pissed and stop giving them money. They like it because it feeds the ducks. Never said because it keeps them out of the south. They just aren't standing up for the duck hunter anymore as a voice.

I've always been PRO DU, Just seems that lately, they won't stand up for THE HUNTERS anymore. We've been begging them for later seasons for YEARS now, but have gotten NOWHERE. They are supposed to be our voice, but looks like we have Larengitis!!!

You and Al Gore I guess. Just kidding. I didn't mean to put you in the same boat as Al Gore. But Al was smart enough to realize that it is warmer than it ever has been. At least in recent measurable history. Wouldn't make much sense to make a movie about Global Warming if it wasn't in fact warmer than it used to be. But I'm not climatologist, and I'm not going to argue the causes for it being warmer.

You are from bama so we cannot take the possibility of temporary retardation out of the equation.

Seriously. I don't get as cold as I did. 32 degrees when I was 17 was pretty damn cold. Now it is just chilly.

I agree the winters are warmer. When was the last time we had sleet or snow to any measurable amount here in centeral MS? Six or seven years.

Discredit DU all you want but I know for a fact that Chad has been working his butt off for ducks just like the rest of us. He's hunting public land in our great state and has had some good hunts this year and some bad just like the rest of us. Do you think that he would work for an organization that would go against his passion of duck hunting and hurt his chances of killing birds every year? And if DU was short stopping them don't you think they would have their employees up there shooting all those ducks so they would keep quiet about the "conspiracy"???

Like Gordo said we need some WATER!!! Not much good habitat because of the lack of water. And what birds are here have so much pressure on them it's crazy. Not too many "sanctuaries" in MS, little water, and high pressure on the birds equals hard hunting and few kills on a regular basis. You want to see the pressure in action visit any of the WMA's w/ water on the weekends. It's just borderline insane the number of hunters. And for the water well that's quite obvious.

OH HA!! I knew it, It's DU and John Deere!!!

Chad, I've been by that office numerous times, and talked to numerous people. What do you think I heard or anyone on here expects to hear. The same thing you expect to hear when you go into a Mossy Oak store, that Mossy oak is the best. Do you actually think anybody would say something different in there.

You guys just have your head stuck so far up DU's booty you just can't see the big picture of what I'm trying to say. WE NEED HELP to get the ducks down like they used to.

I never said I was closed minded like you guys are, I'm open minded to what DU does. I've been hearing the same chit for years and years, the duck numbers have declined every year since the rumors started, Could there be a link, maybe, maybe not, but there has to be an answer to the problem, lets figure it out and do something about it!!!!!! That is all I'm saying

I've already told you where the best source of the explanation of decreased mallard harvest in MS and Arkansas. It's not from DU, Delta, or any other organization. It is from Dr. Rick Kaminsky. Chad will, I'm sure, back up the fact that if anyone knows ducks scientifically, it is Dr. Kaminsky. He work on his study over several years of gathering data from duck #'s in Missouri, duck harvests in the delta, weather patterns, farming practices, and every other possible thing that could influence duck migration. Every one of the elements he studied had more influence than simply feeding ducks with corn.

At all the elevators up here they have the daily corn price, futures and DU price posted.
If we sell the at the DU contract price we open the sieves wide open and let it hit the ground. DU then comes out measures the bushels on the ground and cuts us a check. It saves us a ton on drying fees but hurts us on our yield basis, it's just a fine balancing act of the harvest.

It's amazing that they are so open with this information and it's still just rumors down here.

In all seriousness no till really doesn't have any effect unless crop is left on the ground, combines are so much better today we leave very little behind compared to 10 or even 5 years ago.
No till does not equal no harvest, turned ground exposes crop left behind much better than no till.
Matter a fact the best hunting in the fields is if you can find someone who still fall plows, the ducks and geese love that fresh black turned soil.
DU spot price was $5.25 compared to $4.10 across the scales this fall good deal!!

I swung by the DU office and asked for a refund. They promptly wrote me a check, gave me all monies ever donated back. Chad apologized profusely and even offered to wash my truck. I used the refund to buy robos, call coozies, gnarley window decals, 3.5 inch shells, a yellar lab with a cool name, and a bunch of ribbons so that I, too, could kill a few ducks.
