Call for my son

Postby jtdumallard » Thu Oct 18, 2007 7:16 am

If you were going to have a call made just for a keep sake, which wood would you have it made out of.
Walnut, Cocobolo, Maple, Curly Maple, Bocote, Ebony, Bois D Arc

The call will have name and date of birth.

Thanks

nice idea....my partner at work (other 7 days) and her husband are expecting in march....lil boy.

they were both in my pharmacy class and the future daddy is in my wedding....i'm gonna make him (baby) a 'mini' call.....see if i can't lip the barrel so a pacie can be fitted over....

i'm probably gonna use bois d'arc for color....

of the woods you've listed, i like bois d'arc or walnut....

just my thoughts, gator

IMO, you can't get any better than a figured piece of walnut. the down side is that it may take you a while to find the right piece.

olivewood is plenty hard for a call (it is comparative to walnut), and it is oily, which would be good for making a call. And olive wood is some of the prettiest wood around if you get the right piece.

I've turned a few olivewood calls, it is good stuff...oily and hard, but it doesn't have the toxins in the oils that cocobola does.... it is also a bit more unique than the others....
