bald eagles

Postby j.r. » Thu Sep 13, 2007 6:30 am

i was cutting beans wed. and was on the combine and turned around and looked and there were 2 bald eagles just sitting out in the field. I guess waiting on a rabbit. They hung around all afternoon and about dark took off and flew west toward skylake.

shot a dove down this weekend and a hawk stole it from me before I could "defend" my kill.

even the hawks in the Delta are on welfare and lazy.

Hope the eagles have more drive than that sorry hawk.
There will be a day....

Take your shotgun with you when retrieving doves to fend off those pesky hawks. Problem solved.

Good to see them making a comeback. As far as I am concerned we can't have too many of them..

J.R. my paw in law told me about seeing some this spring near Sky Lake.

I took photos of a nest with a young one standing in it and an adult in a nearby cypress about 6 weeks ago SE of Belzoni.

Man those things are beautiful creatures. Seen one north of Lake Village last year in the top of a dead cypress in a little bayou. My buddy had never seen one. He spotted it and said man that's a big hawk. Told him that wasn't a hawk. Looked like he was 4' tall perched on that limb. Not another bird in sight either. Used to see them all the time wakeboarding north of Amory on the Tenn-Tomm. They had a big nest/house built just for them and warning signs saying to stay back. That was back in the late 90's. Beautiful birds and it's great to see them around more often.

We see them all the time in the White River bottoms during hunting season. They are absolutely amazing to me. Last year we had one land in a tree on the edge of our hole, needless to say ducks wouldn't work for awhile, but we all sat in amazement at the beauty of it. One of the main reasons that the bottoms are my favorite places to hunt.
