What is best way to convert water keels to weighted keels...I have heard just to add sand and tape the ends. Any suggestions??

There are a couple of ways you can do it. Silicone caulk one end, let it set, fill with sand, and silicone caulk the other end. Another way is to use a hot melt glue gun and sand. Or you can use a propane torch to get the ends soft and pinch them with pliers. You have to be pretty careful to do it this way. You could also just glue a lead strap weight in the keel.

Heres a suggestion, Go get some Liquid Nail from the hardware store, snip the end and fill the keel till the hole fills up. this is a easy permanent way to weight it and also never will leak or run out.

just got thru doing a dozen flambeaus with the glue gun and sand trick... didn't work too well on the drakes with their heads up.. so i took some 80 penny nails and drove thru the glue and sand... works great...one nail per deke... best advise, buy weighted keel... esp. if you try this on a 100 degree day with the yellow jackets and all....haha....

Thanks to all for the advice...Judge I must confess I got lazy this time vs just being cheap. I was hoping for lighter carrying since I occasionally hunt WMA and like to walk aways to get away from traffic...but just not worth it once you get to wher3e u are going.
