Tough day ahead.

Postby Nash » Thu Jul 26, 2007 8:25 am

I am dreading Saturday, my wife has been on a mission trip in Mexico and she will be back on Saturday. I am looking foward to seeing her but unfortunantly I have some very bad news to share with her.

She left last Saturday with the group from church and on Monday morning true to our every morning routine I let her dog, Max the Yorkie, out to do his buisness, long story short he was hit by a car and never made it out of the street.

My kids are devistated, and I have literally done nothing but lie to her for the last three days about him. I have to tell her but I don't think over the phone is approiate, so I have decided to wait until she gets back. Gonna be a tough day, I hate to see my wife cry and I know and have known since Monday that I am gonna tell her and that is gonna be the results.

I feel for you. That is going to be hard news to break. You don't know me, but I am going to give you some motherly advice....take it or leave it it is up to you.

I know you think you were doing the right thing by waiting til she got home to share the bad news, but I hope your didn't really have to lie to her about the dog. If you have avoided mentioning or answering questions that is one thing but no good comes from lying. If you have, may I suggest that you immediately apologize for the lie, then try to do what you can to console her on her loss.

I would also suggst that you try to break it to her before she is reunited with the kids, so she has a chance to regain her composure and so it doesn't cause the kids to go through the anguish again.

Bad things happen in an instant and sometimes there is nothing that could be done to keep them from happening.

Tell her now, I agree. Best not to wait; just face it headon. Plus best to do it away from kids if it's gonna be a big scene. Plus they know and either will let it out or intentionally withold it from her, neither of which is good.

I know of a situation where grandparents had kids for a while, not permanent, but would be for couple months anyway. Mom has a medical condition that is kinda dormant so to speak and she passes unexpectedly. Grandma hasn't told kids yet . . . because she doesn't want to upset them and because she doesn't know how or what to say. She has sought advise from others and internet and preacher in how to deal with it. Consensus is tell them. Do it directly. But don't wait.

Anyhow, sorry bout the dog.

I would have told her but the mission trip she is on is a medical trip and she is the only health care provider, she is seeing 80 - 100 people a day and I think by telling her it might distract her attention from the job at hand.

When she calls she ask how things are going I tell her as well as can be expected, so I guess that is not really a lie. She has asked how the dogs are doing and I told her they are fine which is not the truth, but I feel the lie will be less damage that the truth right know. It still does not make it right but I do not know if there is a right way to handle it. No matter which way it is gonna be bad and wrong.

That's a bad deal, and I agree she doesn't need to be thinking about a dog while she is helping people medically.

You better already know where the nearest Yorkie breeder is, and have the cash in your pocket when she gets there.....just in case.

I have already secured a half brother to Max, ready to go home today. That is if she wants another this quick. If not I have secured a full sibling from another litter that will be ready to go in 2 months.

Luckly for me the breeder remembers us.

I just think that as a wife, I would be just as hurt or mad that my husband lied to me as I would be that I lost my dog. I just want you to be prepared for that.

I know you are doing your best to make up for the accident now and it has been a tough thing for you to deal with. Sounds like you have the best intentions to get this situation behind y'all.

Best of luck and let us all know how it goes.
