How many Horses?

Postby Redlegs » Sun Sep 09, 2001 12:33 am

What horse power do ya'll think I should put on a 15' War Eagle? I am going to buy a Mud Buddy. It is the equilvent to a Go-Devil. My boat had a 5 degree v-hull. Should I get 13hp or a 16hp? I will be hunting with 3 people and a dog, short distances on boat roads with some "off road" travling. Thanks guys.

I have never owned a mud motor, but the ones I have experiance with are much slower than an outboard of equal horsepower. So I would probably tend to go up in horsepower, rather than down.

I don't have alot of expreience with mud motors either but here's my first reaction to the question. I assume that since you are buying a mud motor that you plan on running in lots of shallow water. A v-hull boat is going to draw more water than a flat bottom therefore will be little harder to push through the muck... More Horsepower. Also if you think you'll be hunting with three guys, you had better plan on hunting with enough equipment for three guys. That stuff gets pretty heavy as you well know... More Horsepower.
If you think you will be running the mud motor in deeper water with any kind of currant at all, I would talk to a few more folks about that aspect of the motor. I hear that they can get you in trouble in a hurry if the water is little swift.
