Patricks First band Info

Postby duckamateur » Tue Mar 06, 2007 8:49 am

The second weekend of the Goose hunt Patrick picked up a Tarsus banded snow. It took a few weeks to track everything down but I finally got all the info. The Tarsus was placed by the Ministry of Natural Resources Canada. The Bird was supposed to be double banded and they got the Number for me. Certificates are on the way. Looks Like we will add another bird to the wall.

Dear Patrick:

Thank you for reporting the tarsus banded Snow Goose. Approximately 5000 Snow Geese are banded annually in northern Ontario and James Bay to enable wildlife agencies to track movements, estimate survival, monitor harvest and plan for sustainable populations of geese. The banding is supported by the states and provinces of the Mississippi and Central Flyway Councils, the Arctic Goose Joint Venture and the federal governments of the US and Canada. Reports such as yours are important to the success of the program.

The tarsus band HU3 was put on an adult male on July 20, 1999 on Akimiski Island, James Bay, Nunavut in the degree block 5310 8120. The federal band number is 1557-2XXXX.

If you have any further questions, please contact us.

Sincerely,

Sarah
