Glad to hear Crowder mentioned!
Since I am a home town boy of Crowder (grew up one block away from beautiful downtown Crowder
) I'm always interested in hearing how the hunting is going. I spoke with a friend on the phone the day before yesterday and she said that her son and another fellow were killing ducks. Of course hunter etiquette would not allow her to tell the details of where. I have not heard any other word about hunting in the Crowder area.
Speaking from some experience as a "Crowder boy", I'm sure there are some ducks around but it is still a little early. But maybe this snow/ice storm that went across north of us will push a few on down.

Check out the post about hunting near Charleston.MS
The guys hunting near Charleston say they are killing ducks but that a new front is needed to push some more on down.

dukdawgn>>> I know the feeling! I don't want folks advertising my honey holes either! I'm not sure exactly where we're hunting, but two of my friends I'm going with are from Batesville and have a lease or know someone real well, or something....I dunno, I just know I was invited, so I'm going hunting!!!!
About the France thing. I went to Europe about 3 years ago for the first time. I didn't know they had Mallards over there until then. I saw them everywhere over there in Scotland and England. I don't really remember seeing a lot in France, but we were in Paris most of the time. If you got out in the country in England they were definitely around! It was early March when we went, so it was pretty doggone cold! I was wanting my gun and waders! Our bus driver used to hunt some he said. He called them "wildfowl". I showed him a picture of a wood duck in a DU magazine and he ranted and raved about how pretty it was for 2 days. I finally just gave him the magazine for a keepsake.
I think Ireland is supposed to be holding some ducks this time of year.......or what about China? I bet they've got some!!!! Heck, tell them to go to Zimbabwe

I was introduced to Crowder when I was a summer worker with the US Fish and Wildlife Service. We shot nutra off of some farm ponds there and they were telling us that during the winter there has been so many ducks on those farm ponds that if you were standing outside of the truck trying to talk to someone on the other side of the truck, you couldnt hear'em there were so many ducks.(protected ponds, no hunting
) I had to check that out for myself a couple of years ago and to say the least, we saw LOTS of ducks. Wish I had a lease in Crowder.

Report from Crowder.... I kept an accurate count of ducks seen near the York woods but quit counting at 3 jillion. Lots of ducks but few seemed interested in the flooded bean field I was in. Not surprising since there were 10,000 other fields that looked exactly the same nearby. Report from my hosts were that there were more ducks around this early season than they have seen early for the past 10-15 years.
Please Dawgs win one.

The Farm ponds.?? Might you be talking about the Tallahatchie Refuge???
"For we were there together, you and I, though perhaps a thousand or so miles apart. In the wild fowler's way we were together to break the ice, to slog the mud and to witness the daily explosion of sunlight..while prudent men slept safe and warm."
The only Tallahatchie Refuge I am familiar with is on Hwy 8, west of Holcomb. The place you are talkin about might be a part of the Tallahatchie Refuge, I'm not sure. I just remember the ponds were some old catfish ponds that had water control structures on them. I remember there were one or two farm ponds right beside these others, that some folks from out of state leased for an un-heard of amount of money.
