Decent year for me but probably poor by someone elses standards, alot of hit and miss. More misses. Had fun anyway, that's all that counts.

this year was by far below par... for me it was more of getting my bearings together with new stuff and different places to hunt. it will be a big transition next year also.

The older I get......there ARE no 'bad' years......until I get to where I can't go....... ........gotta put it in perspective.

Yeah, it's been tough the past 5-6.......and I would just as soon choke a duck to death as shoot it, right now.......but the few mallards I worked this year, make all the difference in the world. The greenhead that circled the hole 6 times the other day.......was the only duck that 'worked'.......he was looking and talking the whole way in. I was satisfied to get the bird to 'do right' after all the times proven methods were questioned. I WAS quite pleased that our hunting partner, 'Gamehog' took the duck out. I'm not really into high-5's, but with all the patience we've had to endure on birds that were less cooperative, this season......it was a joyous moment, indeed.......not that we killed a duck......but that we did so on 'our terms'.

I have to say this has been one of my better years. We killed limits most every morning for the first 40 days. The shooting has slowed to almost nothing the last two weeks though. I'm taking some kids hunting in the morning and hope they will get a shot or two.

That was my most fun bird of the year. Thanks for the help on getting him in - a typical late season, very wary greenhead.

Let me add perspective to "worst" season...

Last year I was all ready to come home to duck hunt for a week in late January. I had just gotten my case of Winchester Supreme steel 3" no. 3's, I had all my hunting stuff packed in the duffel. I had even cleaned my decoys and shotguns. I was all excited because my Bro' in-law kept telling me about all these ducks he had on his place. I was stoked!

Then my heart decided that I really didn't need to go duck hunting after all. After a midnight run to the emergency room with dizziness, profuse sweating, and rapid breathing, I had a heart failure doctor tell me that many folks my age don't survive the event I had just experienced. I was suffering ventricular tachycardia, a rapidly beating heart...my heart rate was 190 when I got to the hospital. They checked me from stem to stern and could find nothing...no blocked arteries, no valve problems, no infection, no earlier heart damage, no viruses, no high cholestorol...nothing, no reason, nada. They can't tell me why it happened. Just an "electrical problem," they say. They say they will try to regulate it with medication, and I will just have to take it easy. Read that as "no duck hunting...maybe never again!"

Well, fortunately, they did get it under control with medication and a pacemaker...with a defibrilator just in case...hey, I got my own paramedic on board! This season I did get to shoot those "new" Winchesters, and I did walk across that gumbo...a little slower and a bit more out of shape than ever before...but by golly, I was walking in Mississippi Delta duck territory, knee deep in water! Bro' in-law had some ducks, too. We didn't see nearly the ducks we are used to seeing, but we killed limits on occasion and laughed alot.

Let me tell you...this was not a bad season...not even close. Now, last year...that was a bad season!

Put it all in perspective. Now was it such a bad season? Really?

After reading Mr. Crow's post, I had one hell of a season for sure! Glad you made it back bro. I did get more days afield as I was not working the overtime that I was last year at this time. 7 day were spent in Tunica county were quite a few mallards were killed. Thanks Robert! Hunted many a weekend with 10 Mile up at the "Fowl Mood" ponds in Isola were we had a blast on a mixed bag of ducks. Mallards were killed along with Cans and other divers. Fun wingshooting! Thanks Fred. Got to hunt with Big water, Iron Grip, and CWinkler. Lots of laughs and good fellowship was had by all! Not too damn bad I would say!!!!!
