O/U questions - Gulfcoast or anybody

1.saw a used Beretta 686 "Essential" 12 ga O/U, felt great- 98' or 99' model $895.00 what do you know about the essential? It also had a flat matte black barrel - receiver and glossy wood - didn't seem to match.
2.also loooked at a brand new Remington premier field grade 12 ga O/U.that gun really felt great!!! dealer says they are no longer making them-- do you know why and what have you heard about the gun? sorry for all the gun questions

About the Beretta Essential: they took a 686 Onyx, and cut costs any way they could to price the gun less than a Citori. They put on very low grade wood, cut the finish work, and went with pressed checkering, and took the mid rib out of the barrels, a la Krieghoff and the Remington Model 32. Mechanically it is the same as the boucoup expensive Berettas. PERSONALLY, I would spend an extra $200 and get someone with an FFL to order me the Onyx. I just don't like the way those Essentials look.

I dunno anything about the Remington. They were not able to compete with the "B" guns in the O/U ranks, so you will not see many of them around.

hey FD,do you know what the difference is between the whitewing and the 686 onyx - which one is the priciest?
