Sunflower GTR's

Postby Stan » Tue Nov 19, 2002 10:53 am

I was wondering about the GTR's at Sunflower. Can you hunt all GTR's or just the flooded ones? I read the regulations and it doesn't say anything about that. I was also wondering if all GTR's are restricted to duck hunters only? Also are they going to open the gate at South GTR and let you drive up to the levee? If not thats about a 3/4 mile hike in the dark!!

If anyone has any experience at the GTR's and want to hook up, I'll split the expense. email me at stan@croftmetals.com. I have a black lab that needs working.

Thanks,

Stan

Stan, welcome. As a newbie, I am sure you will make plenty of freinds on the forum. Most guys on here are like old women. It takes them a little time and warming up to before they want to get wet with you in the dark...
Sometimes you just have to close your eyes, count to ten, take a deep breath and remind yourself that you wouldn't look good in prison stripes... and just smile at that dumbass and walk away.

i may be an idiot, but i scouted every inch of two of the grntrs that were flooded 4 years ago on sunflower and we never found any food at all. it is mostly all black gum trees. i know there is some food somewhere in the grntrs because i have heard of guys killing some ducks in them. the main thing on the sunflower are the little ponds hidden in the woods. if you can find the ones that are way out of the way and off the roads you will have good success. However, you better know what the heck you are doing because you will get lost and most of the good ones are a good mile from a road. GOOD LUCK!

GTR's

Well, I don't know about food sources at Sunflower, but I hear they get a crap load of ducks. Hardwoods means acorns and acorns produces excellent duck hunting!!!

Stan, I am going to be the Stuttgart Festival the weekend after Thanksgiving, but after that, I think I heading up that way. I had sent you an e-mail earlier. Also, I have the week of Dec. 14-22 off, maybe we can head up there. With all the rain, you will not be limited to hunting only the GTR. Last year there was plenty of water to be had and you can hunt that all day if you want or leave and come back where as the GTR is morning hunts only.
