Mossy Oak Fun day with dogs.

Postby Bobby Williams » Sun Aug 26, 2001 8:28 am

Had a real good turn out yesterday at Mossy Oak Hunting Retriever Club fun day. Picked up some good dog owners for new members. Started right on time and lasted until it got too hot. See you next time. I missed seeing some of you, guess you just could not make it. Had a lot of good door prizes, clothes, dog food, cases of bud,I won a Polirus 500 but did not have a way to get it home so I just gave it to some guy on the street to keep it for me till I can go back. Now you can believe any of this message you want to.

Chance I would say that you have been hanging around the wrong guy too much. No names mention. Seriously it was a good turn out and there were new people there that are very excited about getting their dogs to pick up doves and ducks. It was a just right size crowd. Everyone got to run their dogs and if they needed help they got it. Ben was working the winger and pulled it too hard and it fell over. Told me Papa I hope Mossy Oak is not mad because I broke their big sling shot. Take care Chance and if I can be of any help all you have to do is call and that goes for any HRC or future HRC member reading this.

Fellows, I gotta say that I had a blast last weekend. I only wish Drake (my lab) was further along, but we're working on it. I look forward to the next training day on the 15th.

No lie, guys....everthing was great. Like Bobby said, 'started early, had plenty folks to help and I think everybody had a good time.

The thing I enjoyed the most was seeing the young fella step-up to the line with his 4-month old lab. He called for the first mark and was really discouraged when his dog didn't drive out as far as the bird fell. He was frustrated and probably a little embarrassed (although there's no reason to be) and started to pick his dog up, when Marty and some of the other guys told him to hold-on. Marty explained a few things to the young man and set-up a simple drill to get the dog to drive. 'Worked like a charm and you shoulda seen that kid's face.....that was worth going to see!

I hope some other folks that are reluctant to get their feet wet, will just throw everything aside and just DO IT! Between Marty, Bobby, and Brian ( and some of the other handlers, there), you'll learn alot and you and your dog will enjoy working as a TEAM, once hunting season rolls around......It' NEVER too late to start!

'Really looking forward to the 15th and the MO Hunt Test on the following weekend.

GREAT JOB, GUYS!

We had a great time! Like others have said, things went well, good advice given to several people, and new friends made. Thanks everyone!
