First slick of the year

Postby msbigdawg1234 » Sat Oct 14, 2006 7:36 pm

Third hunt of the season is the charm. I have located a good 150+ buck but have only seen him while on the bulldozer. Hunted him this morn and he laid up 60 yds from me.Decided to give him a break this afternoon and went to my honey hole. Had i small 6pt and 5 slicks and did some deer management. Took and good 120lb slick. This was the first kill w/ the Grim Reapers. Great big hole on both sides she ran 20yds and dropped. Thats how ya want it. Now i 'll have to get back on the big boy. Hope to be able to post his pic soon.

Do you hunt in Warren county? I see you have Vicksburg listed as your location. Good luck getting the buck! Got any trail cam photos of him?

Yes I hunt in warren county. Mostly the north half. Some private and i am in Ridgeway hunting club out Oak Ridge. I don't have a trail camera. If i did i would not put it out where this buck is hanging. It is a new developement next to a old neighborhood. Too many people have a chance to walk around this place. My luck some kid would find it.

Oh ok. I used to know some folks in that club, I think. I have always liked that area, although I have never hunted closeby. Those steep ole hills are cool. Good luck killing the buck. In years past, I have had people tell me about huge deer seen in that older neighborhood that I think you are talking about.

I used ta spend a lot of time in Vicksburg, and was lucky enough to hunt, a good bit, as a guest, at Tri-County up the levy. I've been tryin to remember where Oak Ridge is, but can't quite remember. Which direction is it?

450, it's off Hwy 61 North. You go a couple of miles down, take Bowie Rd. (I think it's called) to the right off 61 and stay the course. Oak Ridge runs MANY miles out.

No, but that's purely my fault. I had what would have been a great opportunity on a 130ish buck the first time I hunted there. Unfortunately, it was also my first ever bow-hunt, and I had NO idea what I was doing. It was also my first time in a climbing stand.

Long story short, at about 8:30 opening morning (98 I think), I had the buck 20yds broadside, eating acorns, and because of rookie ignorance, I never got a shot off. It's still hard for me to believe how fast something that big can move.

It is where I killed my first doe with a bow though.
