hip?
HIP means Harvest In Progress. You need to make sure you get one when you buy your duck stamps. The law says that you have too have them. I dont know for sure if they started enforcing it last year or not being I wasnt able too hunt. Some of the other guys on the board will know for sure.

"You can either shoot on the next pass or watch me do it." Winchester rules hehehehe .......Amen

The Judge is correct again. Harvest Information Program (HIP) is a federal program that the State is mandated to carry out. If you plan on hunting migratory game birds this year you must be HIP certified. What does it take to be HIP certified? Answering a few questions regarding the "family" of migratory game birds hunted and the number harvested. This provides the USFWS one method of estimating hunter harvest. For each person MS HIP certifies the state is reimbursed $0.10. This may not sound like much, but it has brought in $11,000.00 for the past two years.
It is Federal law to be HIP certified in the state that you are hunting migratory game birds.
All license agents have the ability to HIP certify you, even Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart is the worst license agent to perform this task. They have too many new faces behind the sporting good counter that are not aware of this process. The USFWS had to have a meeting with Wal-Mart head people 2-3 years to discuss their lack of compliance.
Every year we run a press release regarding being HIP certified, and the phone starts ringing off the wall with people wanting to know about this new law. HIP has been around for 5+ years
More than you needed to know, huh?

I was wandering if I was correct in what I said to start with that when it was started HIP meant harvest in progress.

duforester,
I got my first sportsman license last season. When I bought it, I just received the long form with my H.I.P. cert. stamp on it. Two weeks later, I got my plastic card with no MB on it. I affixed my duck stamps to my card. I called the local game warden and asked him if I needed to keep my long form. He said that if MB wasn't on my card to just keep them both together (long form& card). I got checked numerous times last season and nobody had a problem with it. When I received my sportsman card this year it had MB on it.
