Fly Fishing
Does anyone on here flyfish? I have been doing a lot of it this past summer, and i was curious to know if anyone else enjoyed the sport.

When the bream bed up during the full moons, you can't beat fly fishing. I fly fished a few times this summer when the bream were hot and had a lot of fun.

I use a #9 weight for bass and redfish every now and then.

Fly Fishing
One of my absolute favorite things to do; ranks right up there with waterfowling.
I grew up in the moutains of Virginia and love to entice scrappy little brook trout with dry flies. However, I'll fish for just about anything with a flyrod - bass, bream, carp, even tried it with catfish (now thats a fight!). I'd really like to try some saltwater flyfishing.

Man I love the anticipation(spl?) of waiting on a bream or bass to hit a top water fly. You either hook one or kick yourself for missing the fish.
CMDucks what part of Va? We lived about 20 minutes from VA, West Jefferson in NW NC until I was 11, when we fished for trout we used corn or rooster tails but that was a long time ago. baldduck

Fly Fishing
I have been fly fishing for about 10 years. My most common endeavors include trout fishing, but I have cast many a fly in the direction of a bream and a few bass also. Myself and a buddy did win a small bass fishing tournament at Sardis about 6 years ago fishing only with fly rods.
Does any one actually tie their own flies? I have been doing this for about 8 years. Tying the fly, then catching the fish on something you tied is very similar to calling in the ducks. You feel as if you have tricked them at their own game!

I've been fly fishing a little over a year now...mostly on the Little Red for trout, but I also like going after bream on the farm ponds when it isn't too hot outside. I also tie my own flies...
And yes, fly fishing with your own hand tied flies is as addictive as calling and shooting waterfowl over your personally trained retriever.

love to fly-fish.... a few years back i went to Lonnies sporting goods in search of a new rod. asking the clerk for one of the new graphite models i had read about.. after all i knew that alot of improvements had been made since i bought my fiberglass rod some 15 years ago.. he returned with just what i wanted. the absolute lightest rod ever in my hands... when he told me it was only 250 bucks i replied " this one is a little too light, got something a little heavier?"
my wife returned to buy it for me for my b-day.. to nice a rod to use...haha....

As several have already said, there's not much that can beat fooling a fish on a fly you've tied yourself.
Baldduck - I grew up in the Shenandoah Valley outside of Winchester, VA. Fished a lot of the small mountain streams for brook trout as well as the Shenandoah River for smallmouth bass. I've also spent some time in W. North Carolina - some fantastic streams there too.

Hey Judge, the next time your in Memphis you ought to go by "The Sporting Life" on poplar ave. They are an Orvis dealer, and have practically everything under the sun... Really neat place but can be a bit expensive also.
H2O_Dog, they have any fly tying supplies you could ever need.....

Thanks R.E.D, but I heard the Sporting Life closed up. I've been using Wolf River Outfitters on Humphreys Blvd (another Orvis dealer), and also Dowdles, Bronsons, and Buck and Bass. All are proud of their fly fishing stuff for sure. Hard for any of them to beat Cabelas.

Man, I hate to hear that. That was a really cool shop. I haven't needed any supplies in a while obviously. Proud indeed. Thanks for the info, I would have hated to drive over there and find that. Keep on fishing, and good luck on your pursuit of those browns on the Little Red......
