well, how about one from TODAY, got my first band after 5 yrs. hunting--took a fellow that just started duck hunting, i call 4 mallards into the dekes--i start shooting on the right, rolled a drake, 2nd shot dropped a hen, 3rd shot dropped another drake--turns out he was shooting at the leftmost drake the whole time and it got away--the hen has a broken wing and flutters about 60 yds. after i thought she was dead in the air, but we see her splashing and swimming into the thick bushes behind us--i go after her and can barely see her swimming away through the dense buttonwoods and finish her off--upon picking her up and finding the band i couldn't help but think how easily she could have escaped, i was very lucky to get another shot at her--a witnessed triple and one of them banded, man it just don't get no better than that!!!

you did put in the plug, right?

My cousin and I were hunting together one morning.......I had limited out and he was one mallard short of his limit. He lands two drakes in the decoys, flushes them up, draws down on the first then unexplainably pulls away from that one and shoots the second one. I ask him why he did that and he says, "that one is banded". He picks it up and sure enough, he's right. Now whenever we land ducks in the decoys and they get up he always looks closely at the first and automatically shoots the second one if he doesn't see a band on the first.................

Hunting in Alberta one morning. Dropped one of a pair of mallards that cam in with the bottom barrel and sent the dog. Before I could reload, shot one from incoming pair of pinatil.. Mallard banded 2 years previously in Faxcomb, SK. Pintail banded that year in Fairbankes, AK. Haven't killed one duck band since!

restraint paid off. my place is in central alabama so killing any mallards is a rarity. i had a few coming in to one hole so i decided not to shoot anything hoping to get a shot at them. i was standing against a tree in a pretty open swamp. there were probably 30 greenwings and 50-60 woodies swimming around me as close as 6-8 feet when a pair of mallards decided to join them. doubled up and went to the house, realizing after getting there the hen was banded. mounted them both together.
next year on the same date, took my dad to another place. he hadn't fired a shot in years, but i got him to shoot a drake woodie. of course it was banded. first one he ever got. wouldn't have been happier if i had killed it.

one time my dad had a rice field lease and my moms sister her boyfriend went huntin with my dad and my dad had killed his ducks so one mallard comes floatin in and my dad says just shoot so the guy shoots and its a band. this guy doesn't even duck hunt.the next year the same guy sees my dad in a resturant and my dad has to go back home so he tells the guy he can hunt his rice field for those two days and the guy hunts is and kills three duck only the first day he kills a duck and the second day his kills two duck both of em banded.
