Morning or Afternoon
Which do you prefer for ducks?
I for the most part hunt mornings. Thinking back some of my best hunt's where in the afternoon though. It seems the birds just fly slower in the afternoons. I was just curious to see what time's ya'll prefer.
Do ya'll set up any differently for the different times?
I know most let the ducks rest in the afternoon's. I did until the birds started showing up in the afternoon last year and decieded to hunt them when they were there. I just hunted the birds when they where on my place at the time's they showed up.
Just curious.

I prefer mornings, don't have to worry about wondering whether or not you shot after roost hrs. The afternoon hunting is usually short and sweet if it happens, but prefer morning hunting because I'll still have a good many birds flying upwards of 11am most of the time.
Early season: Shooting time til 8am
Late season: 8am til 11am

daylight til about 1 or 2 pm.....
i don't/WON'T shoot afternoon's.....don't wanna burn a hole and this has been one way i've self managed to keep outta certain places and let it rest -- self imposed i suppose...
i think it's also a way to keep people from pinpointing where you hunt....while you're hunting, they're hunting for the most part...and you stay a bit later, even if the ducks ain't flying, you stay past the other dudes, so when you come out, you still maintain a certain bit of "incogneitoness"....
anyhow, that's the ramblins of a po public hunter --- BUT, it changes this year, woooooooooooowhoooooo...
p.s...................................still gonna be hunting public too

I don't have a 'set' time.
The only time I look at my watch while I'm duck hunting is before shooting time and quittin' time.
A duck don't give a crap 'bout what time he died......so why should I?
If the ducks don't come to a certain area 'til 12:30........and I don't have to fight 50 other yahoos to get there first.......that's when I'll hunt.
Best time to get to the boat ramp?.........9:30!......(after everybody else has gone home........the ducks know this secret, too).
Best time to catch a flight on a cold bluebird day.........straight-up noon!
If ducks come-in thick before legal shooting time........leave'em alone and come back on a foggy/overcast day and get 'even'. Pick your shots.....look for bands........they'll be in your face if you did your homework and got on the 'X'.

99 % of my hunts are in the morning...hunted 2 time in the p.m. last year most I've hunted in the afternoon in 5 years.... Like to give the birds a rest and go fishin' the way the weathers been the past couple of years....
