Gas=== I am PIZZED

Postby torch » Thu Sep 01, 2005 10:26 am

Yesterday with the panic we sol out of gas. Some stations around me went up as much as .20. We sold what we had at the same price we have been for a week. All my customers are friends and I AM NOT going to gouge them. I ordered gasoline yesterday and my supplier was out. They were waiting for a barge to get in the terminal at Greenville. The barge is in this am. and Reg Unleaded gasoline is going to cost me 3.3342 wholesale.

The AG needs to nail the terminals booty for price gouging. That barge has been enroute for several days now. That fuel was bought and paid for before all this happened.

I guess thats why all major oil co's profits are up 600% in one quarter.

Dad just got back from Belzoni, paid $3.00/gal cash, no credit or debit cards. I paid $2.66/gal there late yesterday evening, now that's damn price gouging. Does anyone know the 1800 number to call the AG and have people been calling, and what can be done to these people?

Jim Hood said that people caught would be charged to the fullest. By dam People should be put out of business for good for taking advantage of others in a time like this.

There is some azzwipe on Lake Harbour dr selling two generators that look to be from Fred Sanfords Salvage yard one for 900 and the other for 500. I have thought hard about all of the sudden having to dodge a car when I get beside them and oops I flatened your over price $#!+ mister.

Sorry for ranting but this realyy pisses me off...

AG's office flooded with complaints

Whom to call

If you think you're experiencing price gouging, take a photo of a sign with correct prices, keep your receipts and call the state attorney general's office at (601) 359-4230.

Bags of ice sold for $10 each.

Hotel rates jumped an additional $40 per night.

Electric generators with a retail price of $1,100 were purchased from trailers and parking lots for $3,000 a pop.

Price gouging has become common in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and officials from the state attorney general's office are targeting those who have taken advantage of high demand items, such as generators and ice.

About 15 employees from the attorney general's office answered hundreds of consumer calls Wednesday regarding price gouging, said Grant Hedgepeth, director of consumer protection.

Most calls were related to gouging with generators and hotel rates, with some charging twice the retail price for the high-demand items.

"Most are calling from the Jackson area, but we've had some from north Mississippi," Hedgepeth said. "We got a report of somebody in Gulfport selling gas for $20 a gallon. We've had three or four reports of people selling $700 generators for $3,000. So far, the people selling are hitting one parking lot and moving to the next."

If convicted, price gouging carries a penalty of up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Jackson Police Chief Shirlene Anderson said police arrested a man Wednesday after he was caught selling portable generators for $2,000 at Home Depot in Jackson, which is more than twice the retail price.

"We haven't had it widespread," she said. "I told the mayor we need to get it under control before it becomes a problem."

A couple from Shipshewana, Ind., drove to Jackson to set up shop in the parking lot of Lonestar Steakhouse and Saloon, selling overpriced electric generators to desperate folks like Louise Knox and Charles Holifield of Canton. Holifield paid $2,600 for a Honda generator.

"They were here when I got here at 8 o'clock this morning," said Lonestar manager Anthony Dale.

The Indiana couple has a Web site, http://www.wannaengine.com, and were selling generators from a horse trailer, accepting credit cards, checks and cash.

Hedgepeth said some were desperate to pay any price for generators that would supply energy to sick family members surviving on oxygen machines.

Meanwhile, Hedgepeth is telling hotels to refund money to people who were overcharged. If not, "We're going to go back and shut them down and arrest them," he said. "Somebody price gouging is the same as a looter."

Staff writer Lorinda Bullock contributed to this report.

Somebody ought to put a bullet in that dude's generator. What a bottom-feeding POS.

I heard on FoxNews last night that it costs OPEC $4 to manufacture and market a barrel of crude. So, they are having to squeeze by on $70/bbl profit.

I think it's time to stick a siphon hose in Iraq, back up the tankers, and make like the Beverly Hillbillies.

I live in Isola 7 miles north of Belzoni. We are out of gas in Isola, can not use debit/credit cards, nor purchase more than $50.00. Also must PREPAY! Went from 2.46 yesterday morning to 3.00 today!

With everyone being so mad I'll be heading home with a loaded gun. Seriously.

I hope they get gas in Greenville so if and when i come home i can get back here.

This same thing happened 9/11. No one keep's a cool head and has to panic.

for the price of gas it's called ethics. Torch i believe your the only one i've seen/heard that still keep his. My hat's off to you. I wish everyone thought that way but in today's society it's very uncommon. How are they going to stop gouging. I mean really if you don't want to pay for it there's thousands that will.

Gas in Fayetteville AR is 3.19 a gal. theres no shortage, our gas comes from Tulsa and pipeline out of TExas. The President could issue an executive order and set a national price across the board till the situation abates, but that wuold pizz off big oil and the profiteers on the commodity markets.

Two stations in town closed voluntarily today, siad they could not sell it for over Three dollars on moral grounds. Thank God someone still has moral scrupples.
