Southern Flight this weekend

Postby Dutch Dog » Sun Apr 03, 2005 3:57 pm

Well, I met several of you this weekend. Did y'all have as much fun as I did Saturday night? I would have to say it was the most fun I have ever had at a Hunt Test. If you were there and I didn't meet you, sorry.

Yep, I saw it. After you left, the judges were talking and they made some pretty good points. Probably the best one is that, since you had the option of holding your dog and didn't....you should have went on and finished smoking the test, and trained your dog against breaking in training...not on the last bird of the 2nd day. Here's something else that probably contributed the mishap. Your dog had been restrained on 7 marks this weekend and then once she was unrestrained (let go) she got to get the bird, when the bird came out, and hit the ground she wasn't restrained and like had happened the 7 previous times...bird on ground, she was not restrained...it was time to get the bird, and that is what she did.

I'm still wondering what she would have done for, (or done WITH)   the duck call I won in the raffle...after what she did for the shirt       .

I think done with is the better question :D :D :D thanks to everyone involved with the test. Espescially the judges, and marshalls. they did an excellent job. See yall this fall.

Had a great time and came a lot closer than I expected to getting our first finished pass. I can honestly say that there was no shame in not getting the pass. Test was tuff and but I did not have to handle on a mark all day and ran a good land blind. The water blind was the killer for us. He took a bad line from the start but got back on track with one wistle but the wind just kept taking him left and I was having to handle him back on line. Had there been no wind I think we would have faired alot better but I was happy with what we did.

For those of you that ran the test, how would y'all rate it as far as other finished test you have ran?

Hats off to the SF crew for putten on a kickazz gig.

Johnny Barlow won both the shotgun and the zinger coupon. He was the feller wearing the grass skirt and hula girl getup. I was the feller selling raffle tickets with him.

Great hunt test. You guys were well organized and pulled it off like clockwork.

Skuna, if you're talking about Saturday finished it sounds like ya'll did more than we did. We picked up on the land blind that morning. If that was your first finished test then you can relax and not expect them all to be that difficult. I have not run one that tough but we haven't run that many. When I stepped up to the line on the land blind I knew we were screwed. I knew we would not be able to carry a cast into a 30 mph wind off the levee for the 15-20 yds you couldn't see the dog behind the levee. I expected her to cut back behind the levee and suck down the back side. Thats just what she did right before I put the lead on her and put her in the truck. I think the biggest problem with Saturdays tests was the wind. Both land and water were run into the wind making the blinds really tough for us.
