Satisfied customer!!

Postby Super-X » Tue Mar 22, 2005 7:31 pm

Just wanted to share an experience with ya'll

Had a pair of Browning hunting boots, maybe 3-4 years old. These were
lace-up, leather boots with cambrelle/gore-tex lining. Bought them at Glover's Sporting goods in Greenwood. Well Glover's is now out of business. Anyway, I put the boots on one day in late January.....had to run to town early afternoon for some stuff. As I walked from the local Wal-Mart back to the car, I developed a very noticeable roll-over on the right foot. Upon inspection, the sole of both boots had literally begun to disintegrate and crumble apart (like the asphalt on our county roads).

My first impression was, heck just throw em away & get a new pair of Rockies. Now, I've passed that 40 y/o mark, and memory's not the best, but it seemed like they had some sort of warranty. I checked out the Browning website, called the customer service number, and spoke with a very pleasant young lady. I was instructed to send the boots back to Browning with note describing how old the boots were & what happened.

I did as told, shipped em off that week. Had actually kinda forgotten about em, till late last week when a postcard arrived in the mail saying they had received the boots and would get back to me.

Well, I get home today from work, & there's a brand new pair of :
waterproof leather Browning lacers on the porch!!! NO QUESTIONS,
NO HASSEL - just Excellent Customer Service. Guess I made the right choice initially.......AND Browning will get more of my business in the future.

It sure is a good feeling to know that some folks still know how to take care of their customers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great to hear some good news about customer service!!!!!

Since you brought that up Super X Mag, I have a pair of Rocky Bearclaws I bought in 1996 at Surplus City. I also have a pair of Rocky slip on boots that were purchased about 2 years later at the Camo Shoppe in NorthPark. Both have been excellent boot choices, but just this past deer season noticed the same issue with the sole of BOTH boots - they were disentigrating - litterally crumbling apart on the bottom. Even had little holes in them like termites.

I think I'll contact Rocky and see what they tell me.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what I might have done to cause this myselt?? Awfully odd that both boots got problem at same time.

Only question I have is, Is their customer service still located in the US?? If so then they definately have my business!!!!!!! I have called a couple of other companies with problems and was told something I could not even begin to understand. I even let my 4 year old at the time talk to them and I sat there on the speaker phone and could not tell a difference between me talking to them and him with my coaching. I know what ya'll are thinking, but I was sitting right there and tellling him what to say the whole time. You really want to screw them up ask them to repeat theirselves or ask them a question about the color of that particular boot!!!!!! If Browning still has customer service in the US then I will never buy another boot!!!!! Just my 2 cents worth, take that and 50 cents and you can get a cup of coffee.

Thats GREAT customer service, some companies still know what it means.

I had the same thing happen to two different pair. The sole just fell apart and they replaced both I got these when I was a game warden from an older warden and although they were new in the box there is no telling how old they actually were.. Rocky also replaced a pair of snake boots that the lining came out of.

All I have to say about Browning is......

Even though they admit that Grade VI wood is more susceptible to failure because of how tight the grain is, they will not replace a stock that is structurally inferior (i.e. where the tightest grain in the whole stock runs diagonally to the line of recoil and is located in the weakest part of the stock.....across the tang), that THEY installed on THEIR Gran Lightening.

I could continue to plead my case with them (over principle), but in all this fiasco, I found-out exactly what my customer loyalty (over a period of 30 years) is worth to the Customer Service Dept. at Browning. And needles to say......I'm not impressed.

I WILL, however, be more analytical regarding structural integrity of high grade wood, in the future.

Other than that, they've given me very little to complain about........and THAT could be considered quite an accomplishment.
