Attention Wingman, Delta, or Greenhead....(Panther video)

Postby Clifford » Tue Jan 15, 2002 8:27 am

All of your names seemed to be somehow involved in the big "panther" discussion on MsDeer.com right now... There has been a video mentioned, and Rep. David Livingston has asked to see it, along with myself... I think someone used some language similar to "betting man", and "put up or shut up"...
Since I have been unable to get any response on my own forum, and to the Email I sent, I am expanding the search to this site because I feel that those handles seem to fit on the duck forum a little better...
So, who is going to come forward and produce the video?
The Representative and I await your response...

Moi??? Well, big black cats, whether you call them panthers, cougars, mountain lions, etc., have been seen in MS for years. My dad has seen two in his life, he just turned 58. Another one was seen by one of our members on our lease 10 yrs ago. Since it is a $5,000 fine and possible jail time for shooting one, people are less liable to shoot one. It is going to take a died one for everyone to accept the truth. A few years ago on the MS outdoors show a man called in telling that he had a video of a panther. That following week the video was shown on the show, then nothing else was ever heard of it. I'm not wanting to start any more crap about this, just stating the facts, and please do not bring Livingston into this, he ain't worth the discussion.

Upon reading your lovely deer forum, I didn't see my name anywhere, although I could have overlooked it. And from your tone of voice in your post here, you seem to be implying that I might have a video. Are you challenging me to put up or shut up? I wasn't even in the discussion over there, so leave me out of it. If I do see a panther, I would keep it to myself, for fear that some of these rednecks would go out and shoot it to "prove" that we do have panthers in Mississippi. I'm sorry if I am taking your post the wrong way, but I have no video.

Quotes from GH22:

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote
The MDWFP was sent a copy last year from a guy who filmed a black panther in a pasture. I saw the film myself and it was legit. My dad has seen two on our lease in the delta, the most recent was 10 yrs ago.

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote
dos gris, I saw the video. I also saw the video shown on the Mississippi Outdoors Show, it's legit. Black panthers have been seen in Mississippi for years, but no one wants to accept the truth. I wished my dad would have had his gun when the saw one 10 yrs ago, but I don't think it would have matter cuz he was running for his life, I've never seen him so shook up before.

Wingman, I certainly am not implying that you were an active participant in the "discussion"... One of the others, either "Greenhead" or "Delta", mentioned that the wingman had it, I believe... And, since I know that you are in here I came looking...
I wasn't the one who started using those betting words... Heck, I am only trying to see a video...
Now, to the comments about Rep. David Livingston... Whether he is well liked or not, he is still a friend of the Mississippi sportsman, and is in a good position to be able to help us. And, I don't know anything about his dogs...
I started this thread here because I wanted to get to the bottom of this... If there is a video, I would very much like to see it...
I don't know who the other two folks are, but I did see some similar handles here before, and I thought it might get a response...
Obviously, this is a topic that produces a lot of different opinions, and controversy...
But, I am not trying to stir up the Caca...
I just figure if someone says they have "proof" that they wouldn't mind using it to convince the skeptics... It's real easy to say anything, backing it up seems to be where the problem lies...
So, if anyone has a video of a big cat prowling in Mississippi, please let me know, so that I can make some arrangements to see it.... Thanks, Clifford

dos gris, I still see that you are out to discredit what I say, just because you read in a copyrighted 1974 book that there is no such thing as a black panther, and if there is, it's a 1:150,000,000 chance of it happening. Let me tell ya something, my 90 year old grandmother just found out that she has contracted the rarest form of cancer known to man, and the probability of a person having it is a lot larger ratio than the black panther. Oversized black cats, whether you call them panthers, cougars, or whatever, have been seen in the state of MS. Now I'm tired of talking about this crap and this is my last post about it. When the MS outdoors show showed the video the two game wardens there said that they would take a look at the video, then nothing else was heard about it.

By the way GH22, I wasn't trying to further discredit your "black panther" stories. I was just trying to help Clifford find the information he was looking for.

Well I wasnt going to say anything about this subject but I figured what the He_ _. My grandfather who is dead now used too farm about 5000 acres up here in the hills of northeast Ms. Every Sunday afternoon some of us would pile in the pickup and ride around and look @ his crops after eating dinner with the family. My uncle and grandfather and my brother and cousin were riding over to look @ my uncles place just off of hiway 8. We were nearly to his place on a gravel road. I saw what I thought to be a dog or a deer running down the middle of the gravel road comming toward us down a hill in the road. My cousin and brother were sitting down in the back of the bed and my grandfater and uncle I guess were discussing how farming was going I was standing up and looking over the cab. Anyway I watched this critter not knowing exactly what it was @ the time come on down the hill towards us in the middle of the road. As we got closer too it I thought this might be a German shepard as it was too dark to be a deer and the size of it too was more the size of a large dog. So I didnt say anything too anyone. We got about 200 yds from it and it turned too get off the road and with the hillside behind it I got a good look at the outline and all I can tellyou it that it was solid black and had a long tail with a curve at the end. too this day and until my dying day I know what I saw was a black panther. I am 39 now and I was 14 then. But no one in the truck seen it. By the time I figured out what I had seen we had done went past where it jumped off the road but when we got to my uncles place I ask them if they had seen it and of course no one had but I know what I saw. And will tell ya so as long as I live!

My two cents... take it for the truth if you want, pass it off as bunk if that pleases you:

Back in the spring I saw a panther in Starkville, behind the new Avalon apartments. My girlfriend was with me. First sighting was just eyes in the headlights. I said, " Look at the deer right here by your apartment." As we got closer I saw that it wasn't a deer but a panther but wasn't about to say so, so I said, "What was that? A black coyote or something?" She confirmed what I was thinking when she said, "No, that was a panther!"

Also, she and here family live on the Hatchie river and have been seeing panthers there for decades. More than one color phase also, some black, some brown, some rusty red. Not a bunch of them or anything, but one or two every 10 yrs. or so.

Like I said, believe me or not, makes no difference to me, but I KNOW there are panthers in Mississippi.

I saw a black panther at a party. I wasn't invited...and ended up getting in a fight. I didn't mean to ruin their black panther paaaaarty.

I should know better than to get into this but then I've never been accused of being a rocket scientist. I almost came to blows with my brother when I told he didn't see a panther because there aren't any in MS. I'm a timber cruiser and I work in the woods almost every day. I've looked at timber from the MS river to the Tombigbee and everywhere in between. I've never seen one or anything that I thought could possibly be one or any evidence of one. I'm not saying that it's impossible just very very unlikely. Also, why have we never seen one dead on the road? We've got black bears, we know that. Didn't some yahoo shoot one on the levee recently? I don't think the MDWFP would be trying to hide knowledge of panthers because they haven't tried to hide the bears. Then again I could be wrong. I had a landowner tell me the other day that when I was looking at his timber to be very careful because the day before he had shot at a hyena that was running his cows--seriously.
