You might want to wait on the new Xtrema, the 05' will have more of the rubberized grip and all internal parts will be stainless!

I don't understand the hatred towards a bennelli and all the love for a berretta when if I'm not mistaken they our actually owned by the same company using the same engineers to design each gun. A berretta is essentially a gas operated bennelli. I own both and have never had a problem with either, but to be honest the bennelli is alot nicer to shoot in my opinion because of its streamlined and lightweight design.

It is probably more accurate to say Benelli is owned by Beretta's holding company. Not the same engineers. Beretta QC is legendary, they have been around for 500 years, and are the oldest continually operated company in the world. Benellis lack of QC is also pretty legendary among the non-brainwashed....

so in other words for the money and durabiity always go with the 870. i haven't heard anyone bash it yet... seems like to me that alot of people just like to brag about holding a gun that cost over $1000 in their hands when they are missing the same ducks as someone holding a $300 gun.

Anne bought a Super 90 after shooting a B-2000 20ga for years. She shoots it fine. She tried for 2 years to talk me into buying one for myself when I started having trouble hitting with my A-5. I finally listened to her and bought one. 'Been happy ever since. In addition, she bought a 3-1/2" Gold Hunter as a 'back-up' gun for Canada trip and shoots it almost exclusively now. She still uses the Super-90 on 'walk-in' hunts and upland birds.

The Super-90 is not idiot-proof......it has some 'quirks' that all have to do with operator error or neglect. 1)If you don't let the bolt 'slam' shut, the bolt may not rotate into it's locked position and will not fire. In other words, if you 'ease' the bolt shut, and don't make sure it locks, you might have a no-fire situation. 2)The other thing is, they require lubrication......especially the slides and recoil spring.

I usually clean mine after about 200 rounds but have gone the whole season (hunting 47 days) without much more than a light oiling of the slides and a daily 'wipe-down'. In my opinion, they are tough guns and function well if you know what it's quirks are. They are a LOT easier to disassemble for thorough cleaning, than an A-5 by a LONG shot. But there's still the nostalgia thing associated with my A-5. Too bad nostalgia won't help me shoot better.

After all the problems with the SBE's, it's hard to imagine ANY Benelli could function properly, but I have had NO problems with the S-90.
