Be considerate of your soil base before pumping..

Sj and Donia have a couple of holes like yours real close to the yazoo. Their soil is quite sandy and their hole will not hold water long until the river rises to a certain level. It’s kinda weird But It’s something to consider. Donia and sj can tell you more about the phenomenon..

Seems like over time you would get enough river silt in there to make it hold water.

Siphon or ram pump, the river would have to be considerably higher than at least some ground on your place. Probably hard to find that to be the case anywhere in the Delta, unless said river is within a levee.

you would think. it is on the inside bend of the river and a couple of years ago when it over-topped the corner of the field it looked like the farmer had dropped a few dirt buckets of beach sand in the turn row. good cotton ground.

My Dad did that with a pond back in the mid 60s. They had three inch plastic pipes, would walk down to the pond easing the pipe down as they went, heat up the end of it and stick a small jar on the end of it then walk it back over the dam, down below the spillway and break the jar. Worked.
