My lab died 2 years ago. I don't have time to train 1. Any suggestions?

Re: Started dog?
It depends. Mainly I would want to know why the dog washed out. If he washed out because of noise, steadiness issues, crack head type behavior, etc he would not make a gundog I would want to hunt with. If he washed out because he just couldn't mark well enough to win field trials then you could end up with a great dog. A dog like that usually sells for considerably less than what was spent on the early training. A 2-3 YO FT washout should run nice blinds and do multiple marks. They usually sell in the 5-8 K range from what I've seen.

I was looking before duck season and ended up buying a dog that wasn't a total washout but the owner had given up on her. She was 18 months old. She had never been hunting before so it took a few hints for her to start seeing them fall like she should but after that she turned out to be very good. Glad I bought her instead of a started dog. Most started dogs I looked at wouldn't do half as good as she did and they were not all that much cheaper.mallardchaser wrote:My lab died 2 years ago. I don't have time to train 1. Any suggestions?

If you are still looking PM me. I know a guy in TN who has a black male. Awesome blood line and I've seen him work in person.
