Who wouldn't?

Wouldn't hurt my feelings if he left. I would hope we would try to pull in Mark Richt.

Mark Richt does not want anything to do with the SEC West. He had a hard enough time in the East. Thats why he got fired....the past few years when the East was down, he couldnt capitalize.Natty wrote:Wouldn't hurt my feelings if he left. I would hope we would try to pull in Mark Richt.

I don't see why he deserves a raise or would want to stay in Starkville.
Get in where you fit in!

Haha if he gets a raise I'm dropping my season tickets.

Re: Mullen wants out of startsville
At first glance it looks like he is jockeying for a raise...but I think it is more than that actually. He has lost three of his last four to Ole Miss and Hugh Freeze. The 2016 game will be in Oxford and which means it will be hard not to lose four of five. If that happens, his stock plunges and his seat is hot.
I think he realizes that this is the year if he wants to move on (or up). The Miami interview was not a serious attempt to get that job, but practice and a notice to potential employers that he is listening. Miami cannot pay him the money he is making now - let alone give him a raise.

Re: Mullen wants out of startsville
All accounts say he is very happy in Starkville but I would assume he would leave for a good spot. Earlier there was a lot of talk about him going Maryland now it looks like Maryland will be going after Richt. I thought VT was another job he may would leave for but that one is filled already. Not sure what other jobs out there right now he would leave for. I think he did a pretty good job this year considering they lost so many starters last year. The West is just nuts right now. If you don't bring your A game any of those teams could beat you.

That last sentence has many different components.mshunter77 wrote:All accounts say he is very happy in Starkville but I would assume he would leave for a good spot. If you look at recruiting rankings, money, coaching, etc., it would appear that the SECw is comprised of the best teams in college football...all in one division. However, when you look at bowl performance last year, coupled with overall success and records this year, I think the argument can be made that the SECw is actually down and overrated.
Alabama is really the only dominant team in the SECw, and even they lost a game at home. I think that Alabama is the only Top 10 rated team in the west. Ole Miss has three losses, State has four losses, LSU has three losses, Auburn has four losses, Texas A&M has four losses and Arkansas has five losses (off the top of my head...I could be wrong).
So, anyone in the SECw can probably beat another west team on any given day...however, that may not really be saying a whole lot.
Re: Mullen wants out of startsville
there are transitive properties that can't and won't ever be known...such as the effect of playing the schedule and how that effected post season performance or other factors and the inequalities of the other side of comparison...I continue to believe, though it can't be proven, that their were 4 teams in the SECw last season, that had they played Ohio State schedule would have ended as national champions or at least in the game and if Ohio State had played theirs, they would have ended 10-2 or 9-3...but again, it's transitive arguments that can't be logically decided...Deltamud77 wrote:That last sentence has many different components.mshunter77 wrote:All accounts say he is very happy in Starkville but I would assume he would leave for a good spot. Richt going to The U. Mullen is going nowhere and doesn't deserve a raise.

Re: Mullen wants out of startsville
At this point, I would tell Mullen to go find another tree to bark up if he's looking for a raise. I wouldn't fire him, or even encourage him to leave, I like him as our coach right now, but there are a few things he could work on. As I remember I think he was given a pretty good raise last year, and at some point you have to be satisfied with your situation, and not constantly try to leverage yourself for more cash.
I also believe that State, if they had to get another coach could go and get another up and comer to be successful there. They have shown they are willing to spend the money to get a quality guy, and that in itself makes the job attractive even if it is considered a stepping stone.
Analysts always talk about Freeze leaving, but OM found a diamond in the rough with that hire considering he is 30-40 miles from where he grew up and has shown no intentions or even had rumors of him even taking a phone call from another AD. I can't think of a job he would ever leave for, and I'm a State fan.
