River Ducks!!!

Postby one more pass » Tue Jan 18, 2005 8:17 am

Well this was the last weekend I could hunt this year due to crappie tournaments about to kick off, but boy did it end in a BANG!!! I tell ya the river is a flowing! Riverhunter and myself got some strange looks when we put my 17 foot tracker powered by a yamaha 60 hp in the river loaded down with all our gear but we had no worries we were out to find the greenheads and find them we did. This was the first time all year we have seen ducks decoy like they did. At one point we had about 30 cup up and fall straight down in our spread from as high up as you could see. I was so shocked I couldn't even shoot. I just let Riverhunter have at it which turned out to be a bad idea because I think his barrel was bent. We shot 7 ducks on Saturday 6 mallards and one teal and we shot 6 greenheads Sunday. Mallards is about all we saw. Should have gotten the limit both days but we didn't know how to shoot decoying ducks! If we shot once we must have shot 100 times in the 2 days. It was a BLAST!!! The river has all the animals messed up. We saw four deer swimming the river and rode up beside them in the boat and took pictures and we saw a coon out in some brush out in the middle looking a little lost. It was a great weekend for sure!

I will try and get the pictures back this week! We took pictures from swimming to running out of the water. I never knew a deer could swim as good as they did. The current was very strong. At one point I had to back off of them because there was a huge mess of trees and I was afraid they were going to get swept into them. To date I have seen 1 huge buck, 1 huge sow pig, one 250+ lb boar(who says #2 steel shot want kill a hog!), 8 or 9 piglets, 1 coyote, 4 does, and a racoon swimming the river. Never know what you are going to run up on out on that river!!
