Re: Ole Miss fans -- baseball next year
First off, you were shipped to UCLA, #1 overall seed. That shows that you were the weakest #2 seed in the regionals, whereas you should've been a low #3 at best after the showing they did against Maryland and Cal Bakersfield. Mizzou and UK also won 30 games and finished right at .500 in conference also. Did they get a regional ? You can't break out the RPI when teams were given higher seeds, even national seeds, with low 50-70 RPI vs teams with higher RPI's. The magical # to shoot for has always been 35 wins. Now you've got teams getting in with 30 that don't deserve the bid. If State doesn't blow that 5 run lead in the 9th, you don't go to a regional. If OM doesn't have a rainout on that 30th game and loses it, no regional. Mizzou should've gotten the last sec spot if anyone was going to get it. That Ole Miss team was weak. Weakest team that I've seen in years. Same goes with State. Wasn't much diff between the two team wise other than the records, and that was bc State had a "I don't care" attitude the last month or so of the season and rolled with the flow. Say State won 6 more games and won 30 ....... would they have deserved a regional bid ........hell no.

_________________Why would you think a team that finished sixth in the conference, playing the #1 toughest schedule in the country, and finished with a RPI of 32 didn't deserve to be in?
Can't wait to hear this one.........
Because when it comes to objectively evaluating anything related to Ole Miss, GH22 is a tard. Bless his heart, he just can't help it.

As a side note, I see that Big Gumbo has finally emerged from the Ozark Honeycomb Hideout, where he had apparently been in hiding since his dream coach Petrino crashed and burned on his motorscooter with the volleyball chick.
Welcome back Big Gumbo. It took an AR baseball CWS appearance and a resurgent football program to bring ya back, but better late than never.
Hopefully, Coach Butthead has a clause in his contract that prohibits him from getting anywhere near a motorcycle or the girls' volleyball program. He appears to have most definately married up, so the odds appear good that he could survive the summer. Another summer crash and burn could lead to mass suicides across the state of Arkansas, including some of my hog-in-laws.

Greenhead22 - Ole Miss goes 4-0 against State this year. State wins only 11 games after a 13-0 start. Ole Miss plays the #1 schedule in the nation, State plays the 43rd schedule. Ole Miss finishes 15-14 in SEC, State finishes 8-22 in SEC. If you think there was not much difference in these two teams you are either extremely bias or know nothing about the game.

State QUIT halfway through the season. No one can argue that or try to deny it. That 8-22 record proves it. They gave away 5-6 games. Here's the schedule matchups. They both played the same SEC schedule except for a different two team rotation. UM played Vandy and Mizzou. State played UK and SC. I see UK and Mizzou matchup as a wash. You win on Vandy over SC. Normally that would be an even matchup but SC had a down year for whatever reason. As for the non conference, they're pretty even competition except for the two games with Louisville for Ole Miss. So I don't see how 5 games can make a 42 spot difference in strength of schedule. I've always laughed at how the SOS is determined anyway.NUTMEG wrote:Greenhead22 - Ole Miss goes 4-0 against State this year. State wins only 11 games after a 13-0 start. Next season will be interesting as to who can pull off a better rebuilding year.
Re: Ole Miss fans -- baseball next year
So you think non-conference was pretty even? State played 19 non-conference games at home to start the season. Ole Miss went to UCF and Louisville and played Wright State 3 at home. Ole Miss played the 23rd rpi non-conference schedule while Ms State played the 216 rpi non-conference schedule. That's pretty even competition?

GH22 You never did answer the question of the schedules being even

Re: Ole Miss fans -- baseball next year
Because I think the non conference RPI# is bs. So Wright State, UCF and Louisville make almost a 200 difference in rpi ? No way in hell. Ole Miss went 4-4 with 2 rainouts in that deal. Give me a break. Why didn't the mighty Rebs sweep WSU and UCF ? State's rpi was low because they lost non conference games they should've won.
The facts are this. Regardless of schedule, they BOTH were mediocre this past season. The tale of the tape will be which comes out with something to prove next Feb.
Heaven forbid Vandy had won the national title Wed night. Ole Miss would've made consolation rings for winning their series 2 of 3 and claiming their part of the national championship.

You proved your knowledge. I understand now because State wasn't even Mediocre.
