Re: New Truck? Ford or Chevy
Had two Explorers we put 200k on each before trading them in. Wife's current Explorer has 125k on it. Working on 60k on my F150. Neither of our current vehicles have given us any trouble. Quality wise I've had nothing but good experiences with Ford vehicles.

Re: New Truck? Ford or Chevy
Just bought a new 2014 F150. I drove the new Chevy and the difference in ride was the differnece for me. The Chevy drove like a tank. There are a ton of rebates on the F150s right now if you are Ok with the "old" body style.

Driving a 2013 f150 super crew and love it. I had a 2003 Dodge Laramie before and really like it but it did not have the room the ford does and it ate transmissions like crazy. The ford has the 5.0 Coyote motor and it gets around 16 driving from Marion to Brooks Rd everyday and will do better on the interstate.
Re: New Truck? Ford or Chevy
Where is this brooks road you speak of?
We hunt near one.
Had a z71 02 with 200k. Needed a bigger cab and a better AC so I traded up to a GMC 1500z71. Haven't had a lick of trouble from it but it only has 17k on it. Rides like a dream.

Re: New Truck? Ford or Chevy
And just a FYI an F-150 w/ stock factory tires on 20" wheels I was getting an all around average of 14.9 MPG. Put some 35s and a 2" leveling kit on the front and it dropped down to 14.3 MPG. I did get 22 MPG driving the Trace from Tupelo to Jackson at 55 MPH but I don't drive like a grandpa usually so expect around 14-15 MPG in daily driving. The Ecoboost costs more and the gas mileage go down below 10 MPG when pulling trailers with any kind of weight to them. When I bought mine the Ecoboost was about $2500 more because of a $1500 sticker price difference plus a $1000 rebate I would have lost by not getting the 5.0 engine. The only thing I don't like about mine is making that monthly payment. Trucks cost too d@mn much these days.

Re: New Truck? Ford or Chevy
I have had 4 Chevy's. my 08 z71 never had any issues. Just got to good of a deal not to trade or i would still have it. The 2014 LTZ z71 i have now is a 1 year old with 14k miles. The electric mirrors quit working, the adjustable pedals dont work, the back cover of the drivers seat fell off, the display on the radio goes in and out. And this all happened in the last month. And have also had to take it back for 3 recalls. 1 for a fitting on the transmission cooler and two where they reprogrammed it. The last time was a reprogram and my gas milage dropped 2 mpg since then.
I am dropping it off this time home to have all the issues fixed in which they said it would be covered by warranty. But it is probably my last one. I will probably go with a Tundra or a ford the next one i get.

I have a 2007 GMC and haven't really had any issues out of it. Its got 130k miles on it now. I hope to ride it to the 10 year mark.
Toyota is supposed to be making a Tundra with a 5.0 Cummings diesel soon. The Nissan rumor came true so maybe the 2016 model year for Toyota. Either way I will be looking hard at the Tundra in the next couple years. Only problem I see with the current Tundra is that they are very thirsty.

Re: New Truck? Ford or Chevy
Tundra is out of the question now due to them drinking gas. I did drive a 2015 ram, and I'll be honest. I am now rethinking my ford and chevy only thoughts. I am not going with a diesel truck due to the maintenance is high, and the fuel is to high. I think I can buy 1,500 gallons of gas at the current price for what the cost diesel motor is. If the new diesel was getting around 35-40 mpg then I would be all over it, however they are not.

I hear the drinking gas debate all the time. You have to give up something to get better gas mileage in a 4x4 truck. Usually thats HP, torque, or a high geared rearend. If you're worried about gas mileage, buy a Prius.

+1 if you want to save gas, don't buy a full size 4x4 truck. I currently have 206k miles on my 08 Tundra Crewmax. Best vehicle I've owned. Haven't had any mechanical issues to speak of and it rides good, pulls good and has Toyota reliability. I also have an 04 Landcruiser with 260k miles on it with no mechanical problems. Also have a 79 4x4 pickup with no major problems and it is all original. Coincidence? I think not. Give me a Toyota product any day over Ford, Chevy or any other "domestic" vehicle that's made in Mexico or somewhere.

Re: New Truck? Ford or Chevy
So your saying that you could careless if you get 5 MPG compared to a truck that will get 17 MPG? It is a difference of opinion I suppose because I am not going to drop 35-40 grand on something that is going to average 10-13MPG.
The MPG game matters in the full size truck world because every manufacture is trying to get the most out of every truck. My pockets are not deep enough to buy a vehicle that is going to get the awful gas mileage.

Re: New Truck? Ford or Chevy
My F150 Lariat went swimming in Katrina, and I replaced it with an F150 King Ranch 4 x 4. So far, 350K miles and still going. I have replaced 1 torque converter, one window motor, all the ball joints, and otherwise just normal maintenance. I do change the oil pretty regular. I keep "wanting" a new truck, but stopping myself since my "old truck" is doing well. Gas milage averages about 13 mpg, not too swell.

I drive an 04 ford f150(14mpg's best) and a 97 80 series Landcruiser(11.5 is best ive ever got, average 10.5)...but both of these trucks are ton better at using them other than riding around town trying to save gas. My 05 z71 couldnt hardly pull my 16' aluminum boat around without down shifting all the time, but hey it got 16mpgs so its all good.
Dont know if a vehicle that gets under 10 mpgs sold on the market so your 5mpgs point is invalid. Over the life of a vehicle try and calculate the differenece between 12-17 mpgs and let me know how much youre out of pocket...its not as much as you think. And the gas milaegas window stickers are optimal conditions.
