GADWALL BOOTY CALL!

Postby GulfCoast » Mon Jan 17, 2005 9:59 am

This Gadwall Booty Call is presented for the enjoyment of one "Greenhead22" who insists that Gadwalls are "the hardest duck to decoy...."

Your Booty Call today is sponsered by Browning and Beretta, and brought to you by GulfCoast, F&W Man and Webfoot. Your special guests are 14 gadwalls, 2 drake widgeon and 2 mallard hens who have now learned NOT to zip in front of the drake at the last second.

GH22: If you would take the little Kangol hats off your decoys, the grayducks would probably work a little better. You ain't in Starkville anymore! :D

Funny you mention that...........

You know it's bad when you've got about 100 birds on the water, and you've got several groups of 5-10 gads circling here and there........just refusing to come in. :? I mean it was bird swimming and flapping all over the place........and they'd come down and flare off, cup and flare, cup and flare. I would have to say it took an average # of 10 circles for a group to come down. It took one circle for the woodies and mallards.....they just happened to land outside of my range.......even for 3.5's. I couldn't get into the back hole......beaver run was over my head so I had to settle for the front chute hole that leads into the back. I could've gotten all the gads and woodies I wanted......but I was gonna be greedy waiting for the green. I sat there and watched all those birds pile in and never fired a shot til all of them got in there at 6:45 and got them up.........missed a bird 3 times........had 2 groups of gads to come back 10 min later.......circled and circled and circled and flared and flared and flared, probably still had 50 birds still in the hole that never left. I had a good shot at the group on the last pass, but another group busted through on the crosswind and flared them off. It's gonna take a boat to get in there, in the process of trying to figure out how since I'm being forced to go back to work tomorrow for no reason when I'm wanting to take off these last 2 weeks.

Now how's that when I didn't put out the first deke this morning? :?

I could've put them out........but they would've been in the point of no return area.

GC - I had some waders like those, they didn't hold up well at all. The boots started cracking and leaking all over the place-I guess yours are still holding up
Are you ready?

Mine are still going strong after 7 years or so. I like them so much that I have a backup pair still in the box for after these die.

Not the North hole, but in the same zip code. Been using it all year whenever ducks are in town.
