Looking at a new Squirrel gun 17 or 22 LR
I have 0 dealings with a 17.But ppl are saying that they are shooting squirrels with em. Looks like to me they would destroy a squirrel and I like to eat mine. Any of you using one?
This is the one I'm looking at getting. Yeah I know its high as hell for a .22 LR but it's what I want.

I love my 17hmr. You will definitely want to shoot squirrels in the head with it though. They will tear up the meat.

Have you shot any of the full metal jackets at a squirrel?

I've shot squirrels with it but only headshots. I've killed a dumptruck load of nutria rats and beavers with the 20gr FMJ's. It will be "less destructive" than the V-max/ballistic tip type bullets but will still make a mess if you meat shoot them. You'll want to head shoot them with both the FMJ and Ballistic Tips. My 17hmr has killed more critters than most of my other guns combined. It's usually always in the truck cruising the farm. It's definitely a "critter getter".

22lr with subsonic ammo is my choice. Doesn't make a whole bunch of noise.
No, i don't want to know you ---- teul

Love my 22s. I was looking at that ruger when I was in the market . I ultimately went with the CZ 452. They aren't in production anymore, but if you can find one used I'd jump on it. The CZ 455 took the 452 place and are good guns too. You can buy a 455 kit and have both a 22LR barrel and a 17HMR barrel and still have $300 left for ammo vs the Ruger.

The ultimate squirrel gun is a bolt action .22 mag. You'll squeal when you see the price of a good one though.

I use a 17, 22mag and a 22LR from time to time. I like the 17hmr the best but as said above best head shoot them if you plan on eating them. I cant tell much difference in meat damage between the 17 and the 22mag. It is much easier to make a head shot with the 17 though.

I've got a savage 93 in .22mag, and it's a tack driver. Good luck finding ammo for it though.Deltaquack wrote:The ultimate squirrel gun is a bolt action .22 mag. You'll squeal when you see the price of a good one though.

I bought a Ruger 77/22 a couple years ago and love it, especially the fact that the clip interchanges with 10/22 guns and is a flush fit with the stock also. However, the triggers on 77/22 are crap. You either have to send them off for trigger job $75 or buy a replacement sear and install yourself for $25

I have a 10/22 Takedown SS/Synthetic coming in soon.. I have one in my personal collection. They are very accurate and pack up nicely in the bag that comes with it.. I am going to be asking $320.00 out the door. Let me know if you are interested in it..
