Well, it was a good run Rebs

Postby Po Monkey Lounger » Sun Jun 22, 2014 10:03 am

The Rebs faced and defeated more national seeds on their journey than any other team. The Rebs will finish the season ranked no lower than 3rd.

VA was just better. We faced them twice and scored only 2 runs in 18 innings. I think they have the best pitching staff and best team in the country. I predict that they will be the national champs.

The Rebs are close. We just need to get a little better.

It feels good to finally have a team ranked in the top 5, to go along with our top 5 fanbase.

Hotly Toddy. Great season.

Well said Po Monk. Today, we have the best baseball program in the state and one of the best in the country.

It was a good run and I think it is also evidence of a few things:
(1) Baseball is all about momentum and pitching at year's end; and
(2) The NCAA, in its wisdom, has completely taken away a major component of baseball in Omaha...the homerun...pitchers are no longer punished for poor pitches...in fact, they are rewarded with fly outs. They need to move the fences in 10-15 feet in that stadium due to the prevailing tornado-like winds blowing in almost all the time.

Ole Miss had the power, on a normal field, to beat anyone in Omaha, but that advantage was taken away through no fault of their own.

officially unofficial but godwin is gone to ECU. happy for the man. that's what he wanted to do was be a HC and to go back home and then to do it for his old school that's pretty cool.

proud of the rebs, and i already find myself looking forward to another baseball season!

As we sit here today, they are the best program in the State...that is not debatable. Could that change next year? Sure. In 2014 they were the best - probably by a wide margin.

Our head to head record doesn't suggest this.... This year

Were they the hottest team in the state to end the year? No doubt

Think GH22 is coming from this standpoint.

Ole Miss is the best baseball team in the state. This may in fact be the best UM baseball team ever. One could argue some of the other Rebel teams in the last 10 years have been more talented, but this one is the best Ole Miss team to date as far as wins, advancement in tourny, etc.

The best program in the state??? That may be something to argue. When one thinks of a "program" they are not considering one year or one team. They are thinking about a "program" over a course of time. In the perspective of programs, then yes I will agree with GH22 and say MSU is still the better program. Not alot of distance between the two. Is LSU a better "program" than MSU or UM. Certainly so. Did they go as far as either of the MS schools in this years tourny? Wrong logic. Program.....team....two different things. Takes several teams/years to describe a program.
Are we gonna get wet?

If State had handled their business at UL, we would've found out who was the best team in the state. Ole Miss will lose 9 players plus HS kids to the draft. They'll be an entirely diff team next season.

According to you...Ole Miss would've been luck to win their own regional, no way they even won a game at ULL, not gonna beat Texas Tech...and I'm not sure if you predicted it on here but I'm sure you were convinced they wouldn't beat TCU either...

So forgive me if I'm not overly concerned about your prognostications for Ole Miss baseball...or sports in general...matter of fact, I might actually feel a bit better about them since given your wise words...

I agree, last year MSU would have been CWS champs if not for the terrible field (ie wind) conditions. If you have a powerful hitting squad you are at a grave disadvantage in Omaha.

If not for those terrible field conditions, MSU would have never made it to the championship series. Small ball is who we were and who we still are. That field favors MSU. Main problem is that we faced a team that it finally favored more than us.

Somewhere last week i read something that said in effect - "the ballpark should be representative of the game the teams participating in have played for the entire season, it should not be arranged in a way that overwhelmingly favors one type of baseball team over the other..." So despite how you feel about BBCOR bats or raised seam baseballs, or whatever...without debate the NCAA is playing it's national championship in an arena that favors some more so than others and plays in a way not at all representative of how these teams play all year an earn right to be there...that should be addressed...

my opinion...no way UCLA wins the College World Series last year outside of TD Ameritrade...and I think a lot of pitching staffs look better than they would have in past, they can pitch with mediocrity without being challenged...i don't think the ballpark specifically did anything to Ole Miss this year...

Somewhere between that venue being the grand stand of college baseball and the BBCOR bats they're using, they are killing the sport...I wish more coaches would speak like Schlossnaggle (sp?) did...for the bulk part of fanbases, it's boring
