Polaris Ranger 400 mid-size

Postby jdbuckshot » Thu Jun 05, 2014 12:52 pm

I'm thinking up upgrading to a Ranger.

I really like the EV - but I'm not sure I want my Primary hunting / farming UTV to be electric.

I do have a Honda fourtrax 4x4 that I use in food plots - farming Etc

I really like the mid size 400. I do not need top performance - super fast mud slinging. so I like the fact that its a little smaller and cheaper than the full size

I want to be able to take my wife and Little girl with me to ride around the farm, and feel like the 400 is plenty big enough

I simply need a reliable - dependable sxs

I really like the new Honda Pioneer 700-4

for those of you that have the Ranger 400 how loud is it?

do you like it? how good is the ride ?

I do not own one, however my friend and hunting buddy bought one (the 400)......IT IS THE BIGGEST POS EVER!!!!...It has been constantly messed up wiring, belts, 4x4, lights. It is nice when it is running, but as far as reliability it has sucked. It leaves one hell of a rut, and if it gets any water near anything it will start slipping. This winter is got locked in gear. Later it was unlocked out of gear and you couldn't move the handle to get it in gear. I personally wouldn't buy one just to mess around on. We make fun of him all of the time because it was supposed to be the baddest mofo out there and it was broke down by day 2.

That new Honda looks pretty sporty, and that 570 from Polaris maybe good. The 400 sucks or at least his does

get pioneer or even big red. Daddy has big red and loves it. it is exactly what you explained. Not for mud racing high schoolers, but very well put together........and no belt!

Not a 400 but I really like my mid-size 800. Goes more places with ease than I imagined. Reliable so far.

Look at the bobcat 3400 , it has the polaris 500cc engine but all of the capacities of the 800. I know several people with them and have heard no complaints.

I have an '11 400... It has plenty of power at 460 cc's with about 100 hrs. I have also had no problems with carbs, belts, lights, etc. but I don't run mine hard. To and from the deer stand, an occasional trip out into shin deep water in a beanfield to drop my stuff at a pit, etc. If I were a piss and vinegar teenager who loved to just make ruts all over the fields and low water crossings, this would not be the machine for that... Perfect for throwing the wife and child on the seat with you and cruising around.
