game camera recommendations

Postby MemphisStockBroker » Wed May 28, 2014 11:27 am

Looking for recommendations on a game camera. dont want junk, but does not have to be the latest and greatest with all the bells and whistles. What do you recommend?

Also, is there anything you can do to keep it from getting stolen ?

I have Bear Boxes for my Cuddeback and Moultries. You have to bold them to the tree......then put a padlock.

I've been looking as well and so far the best bang for the buck seems to be Bushnell trophy cam. Around 130$ but haven't bit the bullet yet.

I've have great experiences with Moultrie M series cameras (take 8 AAs, I use rechargeable Eneloops).

I've actually got an 880i new in box for sale because I'm wanting to get an 880 which has the red glow but a little bit better range on night pics. 880i has no flash, no IR red glow. $120 shipped.

Moultrie M80's. Best cameras I have ever owned. I had 3 of the blackouts on an island taking pics in 4 shot bursts from August through the end of rifle season. Some weeks they would take anywhere between 1-2000 pictures. I think I replaced the batteries one time. They all took great pictures, through most were over a food source and not on a trail so I am not that familiar with trigger speed issues, but I didnt have many mess ups. Had squirrels and a bear gnaw at one. Still ticking. I like them because they are small and compact, issue free so far, great battery life, and take good pictures. I got the black outs after witnessing a big buck get his picture taken once, then walk around the camera afterwards so as not to get his picture taken again. It shortens the length away from the camera you can take pictures, but think the deer dont get scared of it as much as a flash.

btw, the M-880 (red glow), M-880c (white flash), M-880i (blackout), and M-990i (blackout w/ internal viewing screen) are the 2014 models for the old M-80 and M-80XT series.

Looks like I might have to get the moultrie.

If someone has a link to the best price they've found it would be much appreciated.

trailcampro.com does some pretty good research on most all of the available brands out there and gives you an idea of what you'll be getting/giving up with each camera. the results vary year to year but it was helpful to me when i got mine. we run 3 bushnell trophy cams and they have worked great. the trigger got stuck on one and took thousands of pics without stopping. sent it to bushnell explained the problem and they sent a brand new one no questions asked. i like the bushnells size too. they are fairly small and pretty easy to pack in and out. if you really want the best of the best go get a reconyx...should only set you back a grand or so :)
