Trail cam as a security monitor
Trail cam as a security monitor
I assume the technology is available, but looking for some input from actual users (or heavy researchers).
Camera will be placed in inconspicuous location, but if the perpetrator happens to discover & steal or destroy, I need the images to be already sent elsewhere (i.e; server, mobile device or something).
Looking for advice on products/services including reliability & cost to help stay a step or two ahead of these “hard working thieves”.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Trail cam as a security monitor
You want a Covert Code Black or similar MMS camera. I have one at the house and we have two similar cameras at work for the pig trapping. They can be finicky when setting them up but once they are set up, you are good to go. Have to have AT&T sim cards so need AT&T service where they are being set up. I believe there is a model out that takes Verizon or T-Mobile sim cards but i'm not 100%
It takes the picture and emails or texts it to you. I have a lot of experience with them Stacy, give me a call and i'll be glad to help you out and answer questions.

The AT&T thing is a roadblock for this particular area.
Any options for c-spire?

Not yet, at least that I know of. The antennas work if you have a little bit of ATT service, it will boost it enough to transmit the pictures.

If you have a wireless network within range, I believe this camera will upload photos to a computer. No internet or cell service required. You just need a computer hooked up to a wireless router within range of the camera. I have no idea of the dependability.

Had an air comp stolen from open barn couple years ago. Put my camera up in the corner of the barn in one of those steel lockable "bear proof" boxes. Theives came back a week later to "snoop around" (nothing stolen this time). Took this picture to local police and the identified them immediately. Was able to get my stuff back within a week or so.
You can see my replacement air comp (decoy) locked up to the pole. Worked perfectly.

I wish I would've been there when they showed up! Unfortunately, they came at 11:30 on a Thursday night, and more than likely I had been asleep for a good 2 hrs.jtdumallard wrote:SwampMan wrote:Had an air comp stolen from open barn couple years ago. Re: Trail cam as a security monitor
I stress, you MUST have good cell service for these to be dependable. They will work on one or two bars, but not very well.
