Pirogues

Which pirouges are the best to buy. I'm looking for a one man and need to get thru vegetation but not mud /shallow water. Saw some with a PVC pipe fitted in the boat to anchor with push pole. Seems like a good idea. Never had a pirogue, complete newbie about them.

Highly advise you to bring an extra change of clothes, or two, or three, if your a newbie to a pirogue. They aren't the most stable in the world, but will get you into skinny water.

Hands down. I have grown up using them since I could stand. We push-pole all of ours, flat and round bottoms. Trust me on this, if you are planning on doing anything with it other than crossing a ditch, get one that is at least 13 feet. I think chapman's sells one that is 13'6 on beam. all those other models out that are short and wide suck if you need to go any distance in them. Talk with Steve over at chapman's place.

Call Steve at the link Wingman provided. Chapman's are the best!! I have used just about every brand over the years, and have learned that there is no substitute for a Chapman. I just sent my older boat in for a facelift and vinyl hand rails. Steve provided great customer service and a great product!! (Note: just weeks prior to duck season)

Most stable small boat I've ever been in, much less owned.
Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

I bought one from a guy in Lockport several years back. Midnight Boats was the place I believe. It's been a while since I've been in a chapman, but they seemed flimsy to me. Has that changed? Anyway, the one I bought was very sturdy, and consequently heavy.

Yes, I would say that the Chapmans do have a little play but I wouldnt necessarily say they are flimsy. I have had my boat about 15yrs (stored outside). I let someone borrow it and they broke the cypress rails off out on one end while loading it on another boat. So, for 15yrs of abuse the boat has performed very well. We hunt tidal marshes down here on the Coast where between the tides and the North wind there is hardly any water left by the end of a hunt. The Chapmans excel at this skinny water!! I have a Campagna I picked up real cheap, the boat is a little heavier made than the Chapman (fiberglass/kevlar with a rolled gunell) The boat is heavy for its size, doesnt handle the skinny water as well, and def. will make take a pirogue neophyte for a swim!!

I had Chapmans and then i found a Four Rivers...I currently have a 11ft and had a 13 that was stolen. Both were hands down more usefull than my pirogues.
I use mine for duck hunting up here and for catching Redfish in the LA marsh at my camp.
