I'm Just Thankful (update: Page 2)

Postby missed mallards » Mon Dec 16, 2013 10:02 pm

Its funny how time spent outdoors gives a man time to think.

In all honesty, I never once thought of what I 'had' but what I 'wanted'. I guess that's my "Charge" in life, my push to be successful and also my fear. My fears a whole different topic. Anyway, my fears where brought to life when my girlfriend asked if I could help a friend of hers.

Girls 22 years of age, has a 4 year old, married, and in the last 3 weeks she and her husband have lost their jobs. Her husband was working 2 to support his wife as she enters her last semester (a non paid 40 hr/wk job, some type of study program).

From what I gathered, they come from a poorer back ground and she is putting herself through school (yeah, not easy at all). Her life's struggles are starting to add up. Dinner on the table being one. A 4 year old with Christmas around the corner. One more semester or 6 months unpaid. She's been fighting it tooth and nail and government assistance ain't helping much (another F'ed up topic). She's not really wanting a hand out, and is doing what she can to keep from getting on the 'gov't dole' (if you understand how I mean that).

Out of it all, she just wants food on the table. Think about that. When food is a priority. I don't care what you've done in life, how you've made it, or anything else, but when food is something that ain't there, it makes you really think. It's not just her mouth to feed, a 4 year old girl sits at that table also. Sobering, when you think, that some people fight that every day. Thankfully she's great with eating deer meat (or any wild game), so my last few turkey breast will be going, and my 2 year layoff from doe harvest will end the moment the first slick head walks out (hard to do in the rut, but I have a feeling the old bucks will present themselves when they will).

Anyway, I'm just thankful for what I have.

Figured everyone else needed to get some 'real life' in them today and understand/appreciate what they have! And thank the lord for it!

Your doing the right thing. We all have so much and very little to complain about but find time to do so. Good job brother.

Very eye opening there. Good post. It is really hard to get caught up in our own wants. I struggle with that also. Glad to hear you are going to be able to help out.

Sometimes having "eyes to see" those needs is the hard part. People try hard to hide their problems and most people that you would want to help won't ask if they can avoid it. I think being able to spot those things is a gift, one I wish I had. I'm usually the "why didn't I see/think of that" dude.

My wife and I usually find a child to buy Christmas for. If you can get me a list of things, I don't mind doing it at all. I appreciate that more than my wife wasting money to get me something that I don't need or want.

Please let us know if there is anything we can do as a group to help there situation. Maybe we could set up some type of account or something to gift them money for the holidays? Just an idea. If everyone gave $10-$20 I'm sure that money would go a long ways to help her and her family...

Pm sent.. I agree. We could shower this little girl with gifts and take a lot of pressure off this family.

If money for food has become an issue then I'm sure clothing is also an issue. I'm sure some board members here have daughters that age or a little older and have clothes that have been outgrown ?

Let me know if you set up an account or a Christmas list for that little girl.
