Been sending my son to Crossgates Methodist since he was old enough to go. The $600 is just the base, wait until all the fees start rolling in! That being said I feel like my son is more developed having gone there. Although I’m counting down the days, daddy needs a new truck!

It is a racket. The thing that gets me from what I hear(I dont have kids) is that if your name is on the waiting list and you have a child that isnt quite ready to go to daycare and a spot comes up, you have to start paying then for that spot or roll back to the bottom of the list.

Re: Daycare alternatives
Dang, sounds like some good business opportunities to me. It's only 75-100 per week in Cleveland for Daycare. Open a new one and charge 500/month and i bet it would fill up quick.
I would think a private home sitter would be more than 600. I know We usually pay 200-250/week for someone to come to our house and keep our two boys during the summer time.

yup, we had to pay the bill for about 2 months prior to my son actually starting to save the spot. It's hard to get in the "good" ones. So you'll do what you gotta do.deltadukman wrote:southernvaughan wrote:Man I can't imagine having 2 or more in there. I guess I just gotta grin and bear it. D@MN!! Remind me to thank my In-Laws for moving in with us now, and for planning to stay until the baby is at least a year old! For that price, I'll buy a house with a built in Mother-In-Law suite - - - or build them one.
I think I'm gonna be sick.

Re: Daycare alternatives
Unless you can find an undocumented illegal and pay them cash daycare is your cheapest alternative. We spent a little more and just put ours in Hartfield's K3 class. Actually it's cheaper now because I'm not driving 40 minutes every morning to get there and back at 15mpg. Not sure if yours is old enough for that though. Overall it's a racket though. They pretty much have you by the gonads. You might try to find someone in your neighborhood area that keeps kids in their home. They are usually a hundred or two cheaper.

Re: Daycare alternatives
I just realized I'm on the far opposite side of the income chart from any parent! Jeez, I need to open up a daycare!
If I don't do it, I ain't gettin nun.......So i'm doing it
Re: Daycare alternatives
Stepping up on my soapbox......why do people choose to start a family and allow someone else to rear them in their early formative years is beyond me. It is a 'racket' because men and women today choose to have a lifestyle over a family unit. I have heard all of the excuses that 'children in daycare are more social than those at home'. etc......total bunk. What ever excuse one needs to acquiece (sp?) their conscience. Children were reared at home for decades and we had one of the greatest countries in the world, children are now reared in 'daycares' and we have kids shooting each other and teachers in school......can't tell me their isn't a correlation......The increase in daycare usage, the increase in violence.......It starts with Fathers/Husbands.....do without the toys, big house and duck clubs for a few years and enjoy the time with your children at home with your wife bringing them up.
It just blows my mind to see someone want a daycare to rear their child and then on top of that, try to find the cheapest one to care for their child. Ever wander why children put their parents in a nursing home now so frequently? Payback! Keep this post in mind as when you get 80 ish, don't get mad when your children shop around for the cheapest nursing home to put YOU in. Cuz they want a new truck.......
Ok, stepping down off soapbox.....rant over.
Carry on.

Re: Daycare alternatives
how in the heck do you consider it a racket?
31 days a month/7 days a week = 4.43 weeks in avg * 5 days = 22 days of what 9 hours? 22*9= 198 hours
$600/198= $3.03 an hr
yeah they are really ripping you off. You do not want to know what daycare costs for twins in a somewhat of a real city. My friend has just one in daycare in a nice part of dallas, and I think I chit my pants a little while also stopping breathing when they told me what they pay.

Thats assuming a 1:1 ratio of teacher to child. More like a 6-8:1 sometimes more than that.
Re: Daycare alternatives
Y'all go spend a day in a daycare, and then tell me what you would charge someone to do that chit all day every day!
