I saw a show the other night where one cameraman was filming 3 guys looking at a treestand.....one of THEM was another cameraman who was croutched-down to one side, filming a 'close-up' shot of something about the treestand.

Are we supposed to be impressed? What IS it with folks?

Another show had my pet peeve - a guy talking in an autoritative, 'scripted', condescending tone, at anywhere but straight into the camera.......with his head cocked-back like......."man, I AM the MAN! That show got turned-off after the first 10 seconds.

Now, we did get a kick out of the hunter and camerman that got to talking about fireworks in China during the Olympics.....during their elk hunt. BTW.....cameraman #2 was filming THEM, too.

This takes the prize.....

"I was tired. We're 5 days into this 10-day hunt - just came off a good stone sheep hunt (and he killed one of the 3 animals he's after on this one on the 2nd day in camp).....I gotta hurry-up and get this hunt 'done'."

Sounds like a huge problem but I could care less. Enough so, that the channel got switched right after that comment.

Yep.......'showed the dog every time they sat-up to shoot...he left on "KILL'EM!!"........and everybody shot over him while he was running around out there in front of blazing guns, waiting for something to fall.

That was the other thing......they couldn't shoot very well.

Then the token huntress waved her gun either at everybody's knees or across the camera or somebody else's face as she craddled it like a toddler.

One thing was conveyed though......they seemed to be enjoying themselves.

This is one thing that bothers me as well, Randy. I see far too many retrievers, especially at outfitters, that aren't close to steady.

This is one thing that bothers me as well, Randy. I see far too many retrievers, especially at outfitters, that aren't close to steady.

TJ....... do you let your clients/hunters shoot cripples when you're workin your dog....would worry me half to death one of them would shoot mine. I think one of Rocky's got shot a few years ago??

The sad thing is....somebody that's new to waterfowling might see that and think that's what the dog is supposed to do.

I've seen it on a lot of shows and it doesn't mean the dog has a lot of drive and enthusiasm.......it means his handler lets the dog get away with things that are not safe and shouldn't be tolerated.

Absolutely not.

That's the one real rule I have when I give my morning spcheel is for no reason do they shoot while the dog is out. I don't get mad if they shoot before I call the shot. It's their hunt and I want them to have a fun, but safe time. I just tell them there will be plenty of opportunities so just enjoy watching him work, and luckily I haven't had any real slip ups and the clients are always in agreement and respectful of that.

Yeah TJ we would hate to see that temper come out in you...especially out in the middle of nowhere on a hunt.

I don't think a shotgun load can move fast enough to even catch up with Cash man anyways...he does sound like a Clidesdale horse when hes running at a mark.

The one new show that has been a bright surprise to watch this year has been the new Zink Avian X show. The past 2 episodes they have shot ducks and geese with their feet down, good dog work, pretty good calling, and VERY well produced...

That's my only rule as well, other than "be safe" when I give my morning speech to hunters I am guiding. I over-emphasize the fact that there is no one allowed to shoot while my dog is in the water but me or if I explicitly tell you what and where to shoot. I have had one guy ask me "well what happens if I shoot the dog accidentally" being smartassish..I looked him square in the eyes and said "Your hunt is over and I will more than likely kill you", changed the subject with a smile to where he didn't know if I was joking or not. I wasn't.

I concur on several fronts here, but, I digress. The main reason there are a lot of shows is trying to catch that niche crowd that likes their shows. Some I refuse to watch, one has a few younger guys with the earlobe rings and everything is 'extreme'. But then I think, what i would liked to have down when I was 21,22 years old and I have to at least give them credit for pursuing their dream no matter how ridiculous I think it may be. Yes, some have the IQ of a rock, but others are just trying to live their dream.
